Don't think mine will ever wear out. I don't and haven't done that kind of riding. I just get it into 6th gear and cruise.

Clutch wear may be more a regional thing.

My clutch splines failed at 45,500 miles. That is the only reason I replaced the clutch. It was fine until then.

35,000m. Done with spline lube. There was still meat on the bone but I figured better do it. Many, many miles on the bike as a USCF moto marshal in bicycle races - that can be tough on a clutch (two up on the Manayunk Wall following riders in the Philly Classic)

Life of a clutch

156,000 kms, almost 100k miles on original clutch. I pulled the trans at 40k kms to lube the splines. I pulled the starter and had peek the other day. More than a bit of play between the disc and shaft. Me thinks times up.

How much play, measured at the edge of the disk?

About 2mm between shaft and hub. I neglected to ensure the splines went back in precisely the same position when I pulled the trans. This may have accelerated the wear.
Nonetheless 100k is pretty good. The trans shifts perfectly, I could keep riding, and wait for bang. I'm going to pull it, put new input shaft and disc.

I wouldn't do it. 2 mm is normal wear. 8-10 mm is an impending failure. Check it every 10K miles and you'll be fine. Really.

Thanks for the advice . I guess I'm spooked by all the "hysteria". I know you've wrapped your head around this as much as anyone. "Ride On".

It's simple, really. There are good ones and bad ones. If yours hasn't torn itself apart at 100K miles, you have a good one. That's great. Ride it and forget it. Check it every now and then if you simply MUST do something. (Believe me, I know the feeling.)

1st-60,000 miles on the original but replaced because the disc friction material was worn and causing it to slip.

2nd-45,000 miles and replaced because the disc splines were worn but the transmission shaft had some small wear.

3rd-? miles still in use.

Spline failure prompted my clutch replacement cause it was a good idea at the time.
