Fairing hold down piece
After taking off the right side fairing the screw apparatus that is behind the BMW emblems is gone. Attaches to the rear of the fairing and the whole thing is gone.
Is there a source for just that piece? I could JB weld one back in but have to find one first. Thanks for any suggestion on where to find that piece. |

no source for them that I know of and they frequently go missing
you might look on ebay for a damaged fairing you can take one from |

Someone obviously forgot to remove the screw during disassembly and broke it off, then discarded it. When I got my BCS, the right side was separated from the fairing but still screwed in place. I used some 3M emblem glue to re-attach and it has held up nicely since then. It isn't absolutely necessary but keeps the fairing from dancing at idle.

Going to make a bracket to replace the missing one. Dremel at work. I think I can, I think I can.

Got the bracket made and it works! Just hope the JB weld holds.

JB weld works for a few years before it doesn't anymore. I've used it to attach the taillight tabs a couple times before giving up on it & replacing the housing. Did you take pics of the repair, hint, hint?

Well its butt ugly but it works. As you can see I missed the location a few times before getting it right hence the trial and error holes. Hard to hold that marker pen at the proper angle. Did not have the clip for the screw so just put a 5mm stud bolt and attaching a wing nut with washer backup.
Had some really hard plastic stuff that is used on chain guides at packing houses to keep the chains in line. Same stuff as you might find on a chain tensioner on a bike or car. Just cut a block and then started dremeling away everything that was not needed. Hard to work with as the material melts when hot. Just a Redneck repair that doesn't show until you take the fairing off. |
