R1100s - 03 - iABS - Servo Stays on on key turn

Hi all,

I flushed the brake system on my r1100s last year. Followed detailed procedures online to the letter. Everything went well and successful ABS initialisation on key turn worked every time. Brakes where fine when riding.

It was garaged for a while but recently took it out, fitted a new battery and turned the key...

Usual ABS initialisation begins but the servo just doesn't stop and just keeps whining away so never completes the initialisation.

I've checked brake fluid levels at abs box and levers and all good
If I use front and rear levers I can hear a click on lever switch and inside abs box.
Both levers operate brake light.
Both levers cause an audible change in abs servo tone when used during the everlasting initialisation procedure
Checked brake pistons and they are not seized.
Checked all lines and everything seems fine

Anyone had a similar problem or provide any other options to check out?

much appreciated

I don't know the correct answer.
Something to try.
The ABS does have a warning relay. Try taking it out and test it.
I'm afraid you will not be able to swap it out with a fellow relay, because it's the only Blue one there.
The ABS relay is located on the right hand side, closes to the rear of the motorcycle.

Reading the OP’s post what stands out is ‘it was garaged for a while’ bike storage can be a killer, anything short of fully carpeted/insulated/centrally heated garage will open an absolute can of worms, so my first port of call would be pulling ever electrical connector apart and spray with WD before even considering anything else.

A friend of mine had that issue after replacing his battery. I cleared his codes with my GS911 and the problem went away.

If the OP isn’t familiar with a 911, the club version has 10 slots for 10 bikes, when used up that’s it, so finding a benefactor who is prepared to give one up to a stranger will take a little doing, the only other option is a dealer who will have a Pro version which is unlimited.

Disconnect the Battery and reconnect after a few minutes. Funny things sometimes happens when on the charger.

Another option is to delete the servo & ABS.
I'm glad I did on my 2002 R1150RS back in 2018.

Much better front & rear brake modulation, no extra electrical drain on system at red lights or prior to starting and you lose about 5kg of weight at fuel tank level.

If your R1100S still have OEM brake lines and in need to update, it would be the perfect time to delete the serve & ABS system.
