I was horrified this morning when I received a call from a fellow board member and personal friend, Moki, of this news. What a great loss of a true character. I was one of several Pelican members to have had the good fortune to meet Shannon personally and he was exactly the person he portrayed himself to be, a real live wire enjoying life to its fullest. You just couldn't help wanting more mischief when he was around and he could take kidding himself just as well. I am really glad to have met him and am deeply saddened that I will not be seeing him again. A huge loss of a truely unique individual. Here is a pic I took of him on his California trip with his camera.

GODPSEED, SHANNON!
as most readers here know, shannon and steve were guests in my home for the weekend recently. until then shannon was an online friend, as many others are, and i knew him well enough through this board to invite him to stay with my family for that weekend. I can hardly believe he is gone. thanks for the fun you brought to my home that weekend shannon and thanks for the grins you gave me whne i repaired your first flat sriday night, when we first met. it wasnt nearly enough, and i miss you.

I know so many people from so many different walks of life. The ones who are alive and living VS just existing overwhelmingly ride motorcycles, an inherently dangerous proposition. Does this end beat dying in bed of a protracted illness? Up for debate but I think I'd prefer this way.
'Live every day as 'twere your last for someday it surely will; home is the sailor home from the sea and the hunter home from the hill' I think I'm walking out of this concrete meaningless stupid jungle building and going home and going for a ride.

Never had the honor of meeting Shannon. Had hopes of going for rides with him once I moved to Nevada. I am saddened beyond belief about his passing. Great forum contributor, great guy to talk to, tons of personality.
Shannon, the beers tonight are for you! You will be missed by many many people. Matt

I can not believe this. I have no words, only tears.
I wish I had taken Shanon up on his many offers to meet up for rides. I always thought he was so kind to offer and that if I wasn't so busy maybe I would meet up with him next time. Well, next time is never going to come now. Thanks for your kindness and generosity Shannon. See you "next time".

This can't be true. I met Shannon for the first time last month, on his California adventure trip. I felt that he was instantly a friend, which is a rare quality. I looked forward to seeing him again and probably would have gone to Monterey just because he was going to be there. He was fun, yes, but he also spoke from his heart and was real. He did things that other people might only think about. If he wasn't there, we'd never have the pictures of the waitress with the electric bunny ears. Now, more than ever, that one day will be one I always remember. I've got tears running down my cheeks as I write this. Bye, Shannon.

......somehow the words that I do have can't even come close to my feelings right now. I also never met the Shannon personally. However I did enjoy his post, humor, and willingness to share his life with the rest of us.
Godspeed Shannon! I'm sure you're still riding and even showing a few spirits in heaven how it's done! Be at peace my brother.

Terrible. Terrible news.
The one that seemed to have the most personality, that always livened things up on the board... I met Shannon last year in Phoenix, what was different about him was that he wanted to meet everyone that came through his town from this board, and the posters on the board were actually people and friends to him. Will miss him.

A sad day indeed. We never met but this forum revealed much of his character, living on the edge so to speak. He obviously had many friends, so no doubt we could have been too. I'm sorry for his family and friends. It's easy to see he will truly be missed.

Wow, what horrible news to start the day.
Al, it was very appropriate. Thanks to you and all the others sharing. I also never got to meet Shannon personally. Closest was phonetag while we both happened to be in Vegas and looking for a place to see the MotoGP opener last year. Didn't succeed, and now it's obvious I missed a couple things that day. We'd spent quite a bit of time, on the board, on email, and a few phone calls, hashing out stuff for his R90 project. Sorry he didn't get to see it through and that we won't see him anymore. Take care and be careful all of you out there, OK? ![]() Roger

Very sad news. I never got to meet him, but I could tell from his posts that he was at the heart of this forum. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Just want to post one more time. I have a small excerpt that i though i would share. It's from a book that i read not long ago.
I think Shannon lived his life to the fullest. You WILL be missed. THE DASH I read of a reverend who stood to speak at the funeral of his friend. He referred to the date on her tombstone from the beginning... to the end. He noted that first came the date of her birth and spoke of the date with tears but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth, and now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth. For it matters not how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash. What matters is how we live and loved and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard, Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left You could be at "dash mid-range" If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real, and always try to understand the way other people feel, and be less quick to anger, show appreciation more and love the people in our life like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect, more often wear a smile remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So when your eulogy is being read with your life's actions to rehash... would you be pleased with the things they say about how you spent YOUR DASH?

F*** Al, I'm sorry. Terrible terrible news. Ever since my stop through Phoenix in 2003, I've been eagerly awaiting my next Nunnley experience. My journal entry the day I met Shannon reads:
"Meeting Shannon Nunley was an experience in itself. I should have expected it... another crazed BMW S rider. I saw him coming from what must have been a mile away. He screamed down the hill near the entrance to Lake Pleasant passing a row of cars and a couple Harleys, blinding oncoming traffic with the armada of lighting mounted on the front of his bike. After shaking hands and exchanging brief pleasantrys, "You want to get going? We should try and beat the rush hour traffic. Try to keep up, I'm running radar and I ride fast." Okay then... Blazing through thick traffic north of Phoenix I was glad that I had experience riding in Italy swarming around in a chaotic melee with scooters and cars. You definitely need a heightened level of awareness to comfortably slice through thick traffic at the speeds we were. Not for the weak of heart." Those couple of days in the middle of my 2 month trip around the U.S. were a hilight to be sure. I don't know how many times I've talked about Shannon to friends. He always seems to come up in the midst of many a motorcycle related conversation, and definitely whenever Arizona comes up. I wish he was making the MotoGP races in July, though I know that he'll be there in spirit. We definitely need to hook up at the race for a bit. Wish I could be down there to give a hand. Condolences, Al. We all have lost somebody special. Yours truly, John Meloy. Here's some pic hilights from '03.
