Good advice BUT please be very careful with acetone. Virtually anything classified as a plastic is TOAST with acetone. Denatured alcohol not as good but a helluva lot safer.

To add to this already screwed up thread, 3M 'Dual Mounts' much, much better for strength (not talking about adhesive, but the mount itself).

And Jeff, likely you are correct but I have acquired some variety of the convex mirrors, and will try it myself. Hell, I can't screw the visibility any worse than it is.

The 3M stuff is called Dual Lock...

If you've used Velcro tape before, you get the idea-except that this stuff isn't Velcro. With 705 pins per square inch, it gives you four times the tensile strength of hook-and-loop fasteners, which means it will support more weight and do a better job at keeping things from moving around.

I'd never heard or seen it before. Jeff's problem was that the adhesive on the velcro strip came off the aluminium, not that the velcro same undone from itself.

Sorry Sergio, not sure why I called them Dual Mount as opposed to Dual Lock. Anyone with a boat, etc uses them. BTW, Cee Bailey uses them for their headlight protectors too. Radio Shack sells the stuff, etc.

V1 uses the 3M Dual Lock to mount the power adapter for the V1. It's 1/2" square black. Cee Bailey's is white and round.

What youse guyz really want to do is to kill the slick surface of the aluminum (it looked anodized to me, but not certain on that one) with a scotchbrite pad or similar. Then give it the acetone treatment. After that you should have more stickie.

They come in different sizes, shapes, colors, and density Bubba. Take a look, I think on the left side, there's a piece of black Dual Lock on the RT (maybe right).

I did the little round convex mirror thing and the result is a net positive but not a real solution. Since they cover a part of the mirror that gives you a good view of your elbows you don't lose much...but you don't gain much either.

Anton had suggested that a set of R11S mirrors might work. I dropped by his house the other day and matched up my template of the base of the HP2S mirror with the mount on the R11S. The holes are close but do not appear to mate up. I still think an extender will work.

As to the GPS thing. I guess when you live in a part of the country with either few roads or where the map looks like a grid the GPS may seem unimportant but for exploring the back road twisties in these parts (western Va/West VA) it's the perfect tool. You don't have to stop to study the map either.

Mirror extensions won't do squat, IMO. They'll raise the mirrors up more than out, and it won't be by much. I tried them on a SuperHawk, and they didn't help at all. And the mirror stalks are more horizontal on the Honda.

Marine AND aviation units as well (e.g. 396, 496 etc.) Also, with marine and aviation units can subscrbe to weather. NOT weather alerts but NEXRAD radar and cloud cover, among a lot of marine info that's not needed. Expensive tho' at 50 bucks a month. The 9.95 Skywatch version USELESS, the 29.95 version 'ok', but no cloud-cover mosaic.

I found an interesting way to mount a GPS on the HP2 Sport. Seems the two front bolts on the HP2S that hold the tank down can be removed and an aluminum bracket installed to hold a GPS just above the tank.

From the above link:

The bracket is made from a piece of billet aluminium - 3mm thick and 3cm wide at the bottom. There are two cuts made in it to allow the aluminium to be bent to the correct angles. When the angles have been bent to suit, the cuts are welded. For info the bottom angle - where the bolts go - is about 45 degrees and the top angle - just below the GPS attachment - is about 80 degrees.

The bolts at the bottom are standard M6 size and we replaced the standard Torx bolts with Allen keyed bolts. The two bolt holes are centred at 1.5cm and the two slots in the mount are cut a fraction wider.
