Let the haters hate! lol.
The R1100s was never about burning up a blackbird or busa at the track. Someone is always faster and someone always has an extra inch on your cock... Personally I think it's cool he did it. Find a safe tune and enjoy!

Ooops, apologies to RBMann, I obviously meant Motoman.
And to be clear, again, I think the project is damn cool. Always nice when someone does a cool project instead of just talking about it.

At 5 or 6 grand it was still cheap as fabricatation is one thing and tuning it to run and not scatter entirely another.
I'm frankly envious as I always wanted my R1100S to leap forward like my CX650 Turbo did when brake-boosting

When Motoman meets RB racing, the result is obviously, RBMann!
![]() I love my R1100S, the old girl still has good looks after all these years! However, it's been a long time, almost like the movie Castaway when Tom Hanks comes home after about the same amount of time! if someone here really wanted to own a unique bike, I am willing to consider reasonable offers. 16K miles, original owner.

Awsome work Motoman, you sure show the love for your ride. An example to all.
Intersting that you put a turbo on your bike. I just bought a turbo bike but its a Honda CX500TC. Smaller engine only 500cc but with turbo boots it gets 85HP at 4K. Pretty respectable for a 2V moto guzzi type engine. .... I'll race ya

Having owned both a CX500TC and CX650TC (TC means TURBO) I can say the 500 is probably as fast and quick as a stock R110S.
I'd love to race a CX650TC with my R1100 but predict I'd get smoked in a straight line.

Greetings Gentlemen!
![]() (I feel like a real Dinosaur around here... ![]() ![]() Some updates for you: I found an extremely competent mechanic near me and did some modifications to the bike. The water injection was removed (completely unnecessary). The original Garrett Turbo was rebuilt and water-cooled instead of oil cooled, using a small heater core and water pump mounted to the rear of the bike. Wastegate spring was replaced and reduced to 7 lbs. Fuel management replaced with a Techlusion unit which works surprisingly well. Adjustable pressure valve replaced with much more robust unit. All of this was done to make the bike a much more reasonable and reliable unit and not something that was aspiring to race at Bonneville. And of course, in retrospect, the entire project is pointless because of all the wonderful bikes you can go out and buy today which are close to 200 hp in stock form, including the S1000RR. But that's in the Land of Hindsight, where everyone is a genius. Cheers!

I remember that back in '77 we built a Turbo R100S. Bike was a lot of fun, I remember that it would pull like crazy in the top two gears racing other bikes up on Sky Line heading towards Alice's. Had a lot of exhaust valve seat problems, I seem to remember. I do remember that you could outrun the brakes because it would go so fast playing Go-Fast up on Skyline. The speeds that you would hit coming up to a corner were so much higher than a stock R100S.
I have some pics of it somewhere, will post if found.

I came close on several occasions to selling my BCR, but luckily for me I've not followed through. My bike is mostly stock, with several reversible mods. Although I'm not a hardline purist, I do tend to lean towards stock rather than heavily modified. With the prices of R11S, including BCR, are somewhere around their ankles this would be a very cool mod to pursue. I'm sure one day the public will wake up to BCR's and clean low mileage R11S but that's in a time far away from today. In the meantime, life goes on and I certainly won't need this mod 20 years from now. Having said that I wouldn't mind having one of the fastest R11S around and this would be the way to scratch that itch. |

A couple of questions that I'd love to hear more about; - Do you have a diagram or details of the original oil cooling layout? Was the return from the turbo tapped into the sump? - Why did you go for water-cooling of the turbo instead of the original oil feed? - Has this a separate ECU controlling timing (to stop pre detonation?) or was it the BMW system with the Techlusion just added on for fuel? - What size/model of Garrett is it? I'm very interested in this as I'd like to do something very similar and it'd be most helpful to have a baseline of what has been done already! You Sir are a pioneer. |

I had a '77 R100S that we built in .......1977....
![]() It was a lot of fun playing Go-Fast up on Skyline and down Hwy 1 back then on the beast. The first bike that I ever had that would out run its brakes. A new learning curve that had to be quickly mastered as it got to the next corner so damn fast. The only problem that I remember having was that it was very hard on exhaust valve seats.

All I can say is: Don't. And stay far, far, away from RB Racing. Being a Pioneer is expensive. If you want wretched excess, go buy a Kawasaki Ninja H2. Or H2R if you can afford it. There was a recent eBay listing of a Turbo R11S from a shop in the UK. Blue/White/Black. Done much better than mine. Here is a Link- Anyone seen it? Looks good to me! I'd buy it if I lived in the UK... https://www.colwynbaymotorcycles.com/used-bikes/bmw-r1100s/#carousel The bike is running but rarely ridden. If you are interested in a true Pioneer bike, I will entertain serious offers.
