#3 and #9 look very similar to what is used for the heated grips.
#3 should come with the grip, so you will need two #9's.

i mounted these up to my HP2S, I just need to get to the dealer and have it activated. this was a very easy install. I did the same upgrade on the BCR and had to pull the tupperware, and add a wiring harness into the fuse box, etc it was kind of involved. On the HP2S you swap the grips and the right switch gear, plug into the loom that is already there and you are good to go! it was $400 worth of parts though!

In you climate Jeff, that is $400 well spent.

Hi,

I'm installing heated grips on my HP2S. The plugs to accept the plugs from the grips have been snipped off (it was raced and I guess some tech thought it was a good idea - grr). I have been able to dig out the ends out of the rubber part but I can't identify any colours.

I'm going to attach a plug onto the end of the wires. My question is this: common sense tells my that its a simple resistance circuit - I should be able to attach to either wire without regard to colour. Right?

Thanks

If it's just a single pair of wires, then yes, but there's still one ground and the way the canbus works, you never really know. Best to have it wired as it should be.

I too mounted the heated grips and actually the throttle control remains very accelerated when it should be at minimum. Can you tell me if it is sufficient to adjust the throttle control as indicated below, or is it necessary to resynchronize the system at a BMW workshop?

Thanks!

I don't remember touching the throttle at all, but it has probably been 10 years since I installed my heated grips.
It's possible you got the cable installed incorrectly on the drum or maybe pulled it out near the right throttle body or at the Bowden box.
It's preferable to use a GS911 tool to set the stepper motors while syncing the throttle bodies. That being said, I have balanced the throttle bodies without setting the steppers and the bike ran fine.
You will also need a balancing tool for the throttle bodies.

Cheers

Thanks for your answer.

I compared the two throttle controls and they are different, this is the reason that causes tension in the gas cable. I have adjusted the throttle as indicated in the previous photo and everything seems back to normal, but I will be going to BMW to have the system double checked.

The heated right hand grip includes the gas control, the one purchased new differed in the details I highlighted, BMW probably introduced some variations without changing the identification code of the part....

The BMW service has activated the retrofit for the heated grips without errors, but they do not activate.

1. heated grips and right switch are new.
2. from the BMW computer it is possible to turn on the heated grips and check the electrical signal of the two switch positions.
3. No heated grip icon appears on the display.

Any thoughts on the problem?

You took it to a dealer, had the bike hooked up to the diagnostic computer and still no icon on the dash?
I think in one of my original posts there is the procedure for the dealer to follow??
Was that done?

If so, I have no idea why the grips do not work?

Cheers

The activation procedure has been successfully done a couple of times, but no icon on the dashboard and the knobs do not turn on using the right switch.

We also tried replacing the right switch.

The knobs are switched on only via the BMW diagnostic computer.

Maybe the problem is downstream of the switch...maybe a relay?

Damn! Sorry, now I have no idea??
Seems like everyone else has not had any problems with the procedure??

Maybe a broken wire from the bars where the wires flex near the steer head??
This is a known problem on the 12S as the wires are a very small guage.

Keep us posted!

Eureka!

I solved

No defects or electrical interruptions, I armed myself with ODB LX diagnostics + Motoscan app and activated the knobs... which were deactivated.

It remains a mystery why BMW didn't succeed.
