Bags Connection tank bag on HP2 Sport

I recently installed the Bags Connection tank ring and adapter on my HP2 Sport. There are actually two different rings depending on the year of the bike. I believe that the ring is shared with the GS also. I used the bolts and nylock nuts provided in the kit. So you bolt together the ring and gas cap ring, transfer the gas cap and reinstall this onto the tank. I noticed when tightening the torx screws inside the filler neck that the ring seemed like it was sitting higher than before.
Went out to the garage later and smelled fuel. Ok there are 4 bikes in there so that might be possible but the smell was around the Sport. Using my sniffer I noticed that around the gas it was the strongest.
I removed the tank ring again trying to see what the issue was. What happened was that the nylock nuts were deeper than the tank ring and when bolting the assembly on, contacts the carbon center tank section lifts the gas cap up from the filler neck. There were witness marks on the carbon that even after a day were deep.
Solution was easy. Replace the bolts with some stainless bolts and standard nuts. I cut the bolts shorter and used locktite on the nuts so they were flush with the tank ring. Everything went together smoothly from there with no tension on the screws. I also had the tank adapter ring painted to match the gas cap as the stock color that it comes in is not even close.
This is a great solution for a tank bag for the sport and there are several bags to choose from depending on your needs. Looks ok also.

I use this system on the R12S as well and love it. I use the teeny-tiny bag and find it perfect for a rag, med can of plexus, earplugs, wind proof underwear top and bald-spot cover (aka baseball hat). If I need more room to carry thermal bottoms or a pair of bottled waters I unzip the expansion zipper. Nice!

Bags Connect Daypack II

I used the Daypack II on the Sport. In this photo it is in the expanded position. I also use it as a tailbag on my Megamoto. It has plenty of room to put tire repair kit, jacket liner, water etc. I also have a Engage Sport for the weekend run. THis will hold enough for 2 days.

Yep, I have the same system. I did not have any problems with the mount.
I usually put my compressor, tire repair kit, Lemon Pledge, rag and if needed an electric vest into that little bag.
I also have the Engage XL bag if I need more storage.

Cheers

I think this is the cleanest solution so far. I have it on my GS and it never occurred to me that they had one for the HP2 Sport.

I have the factory tank bag. Bought it from Max BMW on Amazon. It is very small and not expandable. A thin jacket liner is all that will fit there. Not worth it in my opinion.

You can fit a standard garmin car GPS in the clear window, so if you want to use it a a cheap GPS mount solution, then it's ok.

Steve, go with the tank ring mount solution. It's much more functional plus you can buy expandable bags that fit your need. Forget the OEM bag.

Well, here's my thoughts.
- I don't need to carry much, and I'm not picturing this a long-range bike. I have small cameras.
- I used to put my radar detector under the map window of my other bags; like that setup because I can take the detector off the bike with the bag.
- it sits in front of the gas cap, so no hassle there.
- it's cheap, so I could always do something else.

The only cameras that would fit are P&S... no way a DSLR is getting in there.

does that get in the way of viewing the instrument cluster?

I just use a fanny pack for my tools and whatever for day trips. If i am going over night I have the BMW tail bag although I have never mounted it up to the HP2S, I certainly wouldnt want to scuff the paint!

Tank Bag

There is no problem with viewing the instruments with this tank bag at all. The expansion of the bag is about 2 inches as shown in this pic. I have a Cycle Pump, plug kit, soft tie down extensions, key for the seat, and my jacket liner in it in this photo. There is also a zipper pocket on the top to carry a SPOT or something small if you want. I repainted the Bags Connection metal ring that is around the fuel cap to match the OEM fuel cap. It comes in a rattle can silver color and looks a little odd.

You're like me. You are trying to find a reason to buy the factory bag, because that's what you really want. So, just get it!

Yeah, I like it. Small, flat, $91. Except for carrying a DSLR, okay. I already ordered it from SJBMW. As well as the bar risers, the S1000RR mirror conversion kit, and the heated grips.

This bike better show up in good condition...
