I still say start with the basics. If there is no fuel pressure injectors won't squirt. If fuel line to fuel filter came off..... no fuel pressure. Just because you took your gas tank to a dealer doesn't mean they did it right. All it would take is a loose hose clamp. tjs

Jim, that goes for carb bikes also. I just got finished bringing a friends Kawa 750 Vulcan back to life after it was left sitting for three years. Heres what some of the components looked like. Thanks again to Bill Swartzwelder for some tips.

Maybe it took 10 minutes of running for loosened material (gunk) to clog up the works? Then solidified afterwards and thus not able to run again?

I just wanted to thank everyone again for the advice and insight. I'm afraid I won't be able to do the tests and report any results for a few weeks (long story), but here's my current test logic:

Do injector squirt test
If pass - report back here and ask for more advice
If fail - Do HES test (pump on at TDC)
If pass - replace injectors
repeat squirt test
If pass - bike should start
If fail - pull tank, return to dealer for inspection
If fail - remove alt cover and inspect HESs

Which leads to this question:If the pump doesn't pulse on in the HES test, how do I isolate the failure to the HES or the pump?

Best Regards,
Tom

Indentation in my logic description was lost in the post, so the last line appears out of place, but the question remains about isolating a HES failure.

The pump should also come on when you turn on the key, regardless of HES status.

Tom, have you been able to work on the bike yet?

I took my tank off last night with recent fueling issues to find that the lower black ring around the fuel pump has fragged out into a bunch of pieces. The filter sock is very brittle and I think the pump sucked up some of the debris from the black ring.

I'm not sure what to replace at this point since all of the filter, pump, and injectors may be affected. Ideally I'd do them all, but my wallet tends to pick and choose. I'm going to start by cleaning the tank and hoping that the black plastic pump seat debris was clogging the intake sock. The pump might be shot. I'll be doing the external filter mod, so after installation, I'll quickly be able to visually see if there is enough fuel pressure coming off of the pump and out of the filter. If not, I know that my injectors are bad. Right now they don't make much of a mist. It could be bad injectors, but it might just be low fuel pressure.
