looks super, Kurt.
Q for you; are the carbon bits Wunderlich or Tecarbon?
Can you speak to the fit n finish?

Thanks John!

A for you; the carbon bits are a mix of Tekarbon and Ilmberger.

Specifically the rear hugger, nose fairing and chin fairing are Julius Ilmberger products. My bike came with the hugger, I purchased the nose fairing through a shop in England. The name Nigel rings a bell, shop is called Sandbar Composites Ltd. Very pleasant bloke to deal with and he was very supportive when the nose fairing was received with a scratch. Nigel assisted me with processing an insurance claim.

The chin fairing was purchased with an HPE exhaust setup directly from Ilmberger in Germany.

The front fender, tank center panel and rear solo cover are Tekarbon products. The fit and finish are not as nice as the more expensive parts but you get what you pay for. I purchased the rear cover off a forum member and it too was damaged in transit. My body shop repaired the chipped corners and it looks nice now.

Initially I purchased the center cover for the front fender but it was severely warped and I didn't like that it hooked to the right. When I called to return it the sales associate was so helpful I decided to exchange it and upgrade to the full carbon fender which I did not originally want.

I have not fit up all the parts after having them painted but will take more pictures and try to provide additional details after everything gets buttoned together.

Hey SS,

Well until this past Sunday I had nothing too exciting to report. Been traveling like a stray dog for work and despite the fact that a few bits that were out for paint had been returned, I hadn't done much reassembly.

I forgot about powder coating my gas cap and the franken bolts for the luggage. Because I want to start riding sooner rather than later I plan to pick up a spare gas cap as not to delay project completion any longer. OEM gas cap was reinstalled and is going to remain silver for a little while.

Also, I picked up an HID headlamp conversion kit late last week. I plan to disassemble the headlamp housing and change the silver surround to the same metallic magnesium color used on the frame. Installation of the HID kit and the surround color change can also wait. I have obtained a spare headlamp housing and am investigating the best way to open it so I can paint inside.

Sunday following turkey day I parked myself in the garage and spent almost 8 hours working on my R1200S project. She is still not complete yet but I am very pleased with the progress.

This is the first picture that I have taken with my Surface. My wife got me a Surface as an early Christmas present because my old personal laptop died. Sorry about the image quality, I will take and post some proper pictures with a quality camera when the project is complete.

Remaining to do items before I can ride:

1. install HPE exhaust
2. apply 3m clear guard (required for chin fairing)
3. install chin fairing
4. adjust LSL bars and finish installing hand controls
5. drill bars after determining optimal control position
6. change clutch fluid and bleed system

Hope everyone had a pleasant holiday, if no surprises pop up I should be riding this weekend.

No, thank you for asking for an update. Your request prompted me to look ahead and recall that I needed to schedule an appointment to have the 3M clear guard applied.

I have scheduled for an installer to visit one afternoon later this week and will snag a few better pics as the 3M film is being applied.

Not sure if I should hold onto my factory parts or sell them. If anyone needs something please let me know. I have a complete front fender, nose fairing, clear windshield, tank center fairing, pillion cover, amber turn signal lenses, clutch and brake levers, silver front and rear wheels, telelever a-arm and complete exhaust.

Thanks LCP! Truth be told picture taking is just not one of my gifts. Kind of bugs my wife because her ex was a professional photographer and I cannot take a good photo of her to save my live.

My better half is definitely more skilled with the lens and I will ask her to snap a few photos for me this weekend if the weather is nice and we get some free time.

Here are a few additional images I captured. I think I might just need to purchase a book on photography and learn some of the do's and don'ts.

I am pleased with the final product. We managed to match titanium color pretty well on the ceramic exhaust coating, powder coating and paint.

In dim light it is difficult to discern the carbon parts from the black painted bodywork. When the flash pops it really illuminates the metal flake in the indigo blau paint and makes the blue look pastel. I think that the colors will show well together in bright natural light but it was overcast when I took the outside images.

Beautiful!

The colors look terrific...great execution from concept to final product. What windscreen is that....looks taller than stock? I've enjoyed the thread.

might i suggest to spray the backside of the screen with some black bumper paint ,
I think it would look better,
here is a picture of my blacked out screen on my K1300S
This mod makes reading the gauges easier and will keep the sun from hitting them if it sits outside

If that was for me ,
I really cant lean down far enough to tuck under the screen though I can lean down enough to be out of the flow so my face shield is out of the windblast.
I have not gotten a chance to get the bike going that fast.
So looking through the screen isnt really important for me it might be for the OP.
Good point though

More Pics

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the flattering comments. The metallic blue paint looks very striking next to the carbon fiber. Although I have never seen an HP2S in person, I must assume that it looks fantastic in bright light.

I fired her up and rode around the neighborhood today just to make sure everything was reassembled correctly. Didn't come close to hitting 170 mph and seriously doubt the R1200S would ever get there.

The windscreen was manufactured by MRA in Germany for the Ilmberger nose fairing. I like the design of the Ilmberger part better than the OEM piece because it is stiffer and feels much less flimsy. Incidentally they sell a smoke screen this same style. Thanks for the suggestion regarding the flat spray on the inside. I will need to ride her a few times to determine if looking through the screen at speed is required.

Here are a few more photos that I took in the light of day. Peace!

3 more pics

I have an appointment to have the 3M clearguard installed in the middle of December. Between now and then I have a few more things to take care of like determining the best position of the hand controls and drilling the LSL bars.

I really want to get out and ride her but I don't want to chip up the paint on the chin fairing before I have a chance to get the protective film installed.

Also I need to get the gas cap and franken bolts powder coated and the headlamp surround painted. Man was it a b*t*h to take the lens off the headlamp. BMW sure used some good adhesive while assembling the headlamp.
