That seems like a lot of money for a bike that is really best used at the track.
It is kind of like a ZR1 Corvette, Viper, or a GT2 Porsche. A halo offering that gets lots of oohs and ahhhs... but in the real world, the power can't be utilized, and I would think that the harsh dynamics become discouraging to even use. Then again, I have never been a huge fan of super-sports and race-replica bikes for the street. They look cool on magazine covers, I can't imagine that they are as rewarding to ride at or near a speed limit. And they hood-wink young novice riders into thinking that a hyper-sport is a cool bike to start on... which is dangerous. That HP4 is an expert level machine with a narrow-focus on what it is truly good at... and public roads don't allow it. I am sure it is a nice feather in BMW's cap... so to speak... but I wish they would get back to building truly innovative real-world road bikes... like a more interesting R1200R or a new R1200S. |

...seeing how you list Heated grips as included and as a extra..... do they make double heated grips for riders in the northern states?

for that kind of scratch you can buy one of these new and have Max put in the Wossner kit. The BST wheels might be a little extra

So tempting........and yet so wrong for me. Why would I want to go out on a bike that weights less than anything in its class, has the most HP to weight ratio ever offered on a stock motorcycle, will run over 190 stock, stop from 60 to 0 in just over 100 feet, will adjust it's suspension and overall power delivery to ever-changing road surface, traction, lean angle, and power needs. It even does more, but why should I want to have one of these just to ride even one year..........even.
I have become aware of a ratio that is showing itself to be very accurate. When you get over the age of 35, a rider should start using a safety type ratio which might come in handy in caculating whether or not you might get any paticular bike I call it the "rider age to peak HP ratio" or RA/HP for short. In the old days I had a 50 hp R75 and was 27 years old, thus my ratio was about one year of age for every 2 HP (50 divided by 27 = 1.85 HP per year of age) Now as I look into this I see that my ratio has de-proved some.........with the 1000RR HP4's peak HP of 195.......my ratio would now be 2.82 HP per year of age. I have observed that anything over the ratio of 2.2 will end up getting you in trouble, if this ratio is applied to those riders 35 or older. My ratio when I am on the HP2 Sport is a safer and more useful ratio of 1.91 HP per year of age. Last edited by Dr. Curve; 10-02-2012 at 05:22 PM.. |

Great Shred, and do enjoy those 50's because they are the best, besides you have plenty of riding left to do and now have the perfect bike for the task. Very high ratio but if you stay fit, and don't carry any agenda other than riding safe and responsible............anything is possible on that HP2 of yours. I sure am envious of it and I bet others are as well.
The ratio is for riders 35 to 70. Before 35.........any HP would have been OK, no matter how high, because we KNEW we could handle it. After 70.............any HP twice over ones actual age is most likely not wise but many do it anyway. |

It looks like a great bike and a great package at a decent price for what you get. As far as not being being able to utilize all that power....well most sport bikes above 600cc you can't or should not utilize all the power on the street.
I would guess 99% of the population would not realize its a "special bike". And a lot of motorcyclist would not know it either....so I don't see it as a poser bike....IMO. Most people would see it and say...that's one them there Honda motor sickles. Like every private jet is a Lear jet. Lane

The electronics on the HP4 has more IQ than me. I wonder if it will compensate for the HP to age ratio 3.518518518518518518518518518518 for me? Or maybe 518 to infinity has some special meaning., I know it would take that many months to pay it off.

Awesome machine Shreddr.
I debated the new HP4, not certain it will hold its value (not that I would expect it to). There is an absolute flood of used and overstock S1000RRs out there and prices have come down and have downward pressure on them. The S1000 is a silly machine for the street...I own one and use it the least. I think the money is better spent getting a gently used S1000 and a K1300S, or 3 R1100s, or a K bike and an R bike....you get the drift. $24K buys a lot in the used market right now.
