HP2 Clutch Fluid

Hey gang;

I'm stuck at work and need to pick up the correct clutch fluid for the HP2 on my way home.

I believe it is mineral oil, but what????
I don't know if I will be able to make it to the dealer....so any other suggestions???

Thanks

Yeah, the cap says mineral oil IIRC but the rider's manual states DOT4.

I just wanted to let you guys know how easy it is to bleed the clutches no the R12/HP2's.

I picked up the Vitamol V10 at one of the local dealers for $18/250ml. That is bloody robbery, but stick with me......

I used a 10ml syringe and a bit of plastic pipe.......sucked the Vitamol out of the container........put the pipe on the slave cylinder bleed nipple.......opened the nipple and forced the fluid up into the nipple.

10ml did get the fluid into the reservoir, but I still had no clutch........installed a hose on the bleeder at the reservoir and bled it about 5 times........bled the slave once........and now have a nice clutch feel.

I used about 20ml of Vitamol.......so....that $18 for 250ml equates to about 12 bleed jobs........or about $1.50 a bleed job!

If you take it into that context, it's pretty cheap and you are still using the recommended fluid!

Cheers

Yeah, but it'll cost you more than a toonie!

Get your own Vitamol, bring copious quantities of beer and don't forget the dancing girls!

Cheers

Be wary of using old brake/clutch hydraulic fluid. The oil is hygroscopic ie it absorbs water and once opened has a very short shelf life. As such a critical component it is good practice to only use new unopened hydraulic fluid as to do otherwise can be false economy.

It's mineral oil not hydraulic fluid, it does not absorb water but you could give yourself an enema or drink it for constipation.
