Question BCR belly pan questions

I got inspired to install my knock off BCR belly pan. It's the fiberglass one from eBay. It's actually a pretty decent product. I had to modify it slightly since I've lowered my foot pegs but that's not a big deal. I'm in the process of painting it now. But, my question is heat shielding; I looked on the microfiche and all it shows is a pad that's under the cat on the rear of the pan. Is that all there is? I can't believe that there isn't more heat shielding where the pipes run down the inside of the pan. Can someone with a real BCR pan check on that for me?

Thanks.

Wish I could help, my 03 BCR had the cat. removed before I bought it. The belly pan doesn't appear to have any heat shielding in it at all. The entire inner surface is silver colored though.

I just checked my O5 and the heatshield is an extremely thin foil that starts at about the rear of the cylinders and goes all the way back. Bare in mind though that from my understanding the OEM pans are carbon fiber (you can see the cf weave at the front where there is no heat shield) which might well be more heat resistant that fiberglass or certainly molded plastic. Hope this helps.

I have the same, it is not heat shielded and that has caused no issues.

However, use some transparent plasti-dip or a vinyl film for the front section around the venting holes, otherwise your paint will chip very quickly (like it did on mine :*$ )

+1 on the leading edge protection. I'd use some of that 3M clear rock chip protection film that they are using on cars these days.

Also, I use aluminum foil duct tape that the HVAC guys use to protect the heated areas of the belly pan. The adhesive is strong and heat proof, and the foil is thick enough to be valuable.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've never seen transparent PlastiDip? That's got to be a Job putting the clear 3M on the front. I was planning on a good coat of rock chip clear coat.

I use the clear on the front of the BCR belly pan. The thin silver foil (std) flaked off ina couple of places. I simply used aluminum foil on a roll and used some spray adhesive. Very easy to do, looks like original and I used a couple of layers close to the pipes.

Thanks for the answers guys. I used the aluminum tape and lined the pan. Hopefully it will keep things cool. Here's the finished result on the bike...

Very nice, congrats.

What did you use to protect the paint on the leading edge?

Chip guard was added to the clear coat. The front and leading edges also got a couple of extra coats.

Looks great. I'm amazed these bikes continue to look so good and get so many compliments.
The belly pan really does finish the original bodywork likes. Love my BCR.

Very nicely done! Great match up of the paint.

The addition of "chip guard" will pay dividends in the future. The front edge of pan, and the center of the bottom is pitted and chipped. Not that I look under there.

AZ Pete - I don't see the bottom of the pan but others might as I ride (or slide) past . I was thinking about putting something on the bottom like "lean angle exceeded" or I even though about putting a "Rossi" face just out of humor.

Oh, you may want to drill a hole or two at the bottom of the pan, if you park outside. Rainwater pools in it if you don't, and then it smells like dirty swamps everytime you turn on the bike

So the smell of my leathers matches the smell of my bike!

Hah, reminds me of the sail boat I had in my youth. It was an 18' racing dinghy that I bought second hand. Several months late I discovered that the original owner had painted "Oops" on the bottom.
