Gauge Bezel Removal & Wax
How do I remove the gauge bezels? I think someone added white gauge faces and the tach needle seems to be dragging on the face.
I used Mequires wax on my black (non metallic) '02 Boxster this weekend. It left some pretty nasty swirl marks. Seemed to be worse the longer I let dry. (The can said to wax the entire car before buffing.) It was in the shade, actually after the sun went down, and the car had been in the garage all day prior. I used a cotton terrycloth towel and a cotton t-shirt to buff with but there was no difference. Any recommendations for wax? thanks |

You need to disassemble the gauges - not an easy thing to do without screwing them up. You can take out the cluster, and then remove the front part from the housing. I would just try to reglue the faces rather than remove them - you could do more damage...
Swirl marks can be buffed out - I'm not an expert, but the experts I've seen can do magical things! -Wayne

I have never heard of doing the entire car at once. Ususally it's a 2'x2' patch, or at most a panel at a time.
As far as swirl marks, usually those are actual scratches in the paint from rougher grits of rubbing compound. Is it actual scratches or just built up places of wax on the surface. If it's the first, then something was scratching the surface probably in your towels, and you would need to use a fine rubbing compound to remove. If it is just wax buildup, then more buffing should take it off. I am personally a fan of 3M products, and while they are pricier, they yield very good results.
