IMS Bearing Inspection

Pulled the Dealer installed updated IMS flange & found the shaft has a good 1/4" freeplay. While trying to remove the bearing seal with a small pick caught the edge of the race & it came out with the seal very easily & ball bearings spilled out with it!

Can you show more of the bearing and what you found plus what you're doing about it?

Not much to see of the IMS bearing. It is a double row, the external side is on the floor & in last pic. The internal side is not visable without an extraction. I am having LN's triple ceramic upgrade installed.

Guys heres a curious question from me here- what's the technical name for the bottom end aluminum crank carrier? I've heard it called something before, but I cannot remember.

It's called a 'Bearing Housing' in the workshop manual.

You're pictures look like a std 3.2L

Did you bore it out and replace with Nickies to 3.6L?

or are you putting in a dual vario-cam 996 3.6L engine?

If so what are you doing electronics wise?

thanks,

mike

Mike-

I think that's the engine coming out of the standard S... not the 3.6 going in.

This is the original Bearing Housing, it gets cleaned, inspected for wear & new DFL coated bearings & endplay shims.

Case gets 99mm LN Engineering sleeves.

One of the many advantages to building original engine is no electronic manipulation is required. This is the original 3.2 case. Bearing housing is in previous post photo.
