race seat fitment

Gents-

I want to pick up a fiberglass race seat, a la Corbeau FX Pro or Sparco 2000 for trackday use.

Does anyone have any pictures of race seats in a Boxster? I just want to get a feel for how they fit and look. The stock seats are about 50 lbs each, for trackdays I intend on removing the passenger seat and the drivers seat weighing about 20 lbs with mounts, making for a total loss of 80 lbs (significant).

Maybe boxster spec guys would know what seats/rails work well?

Most seats are very similar, but what rails to get is a much tougher question.

My other reason for wanting a different seat is to get lower in the car. I feel I sit up to high with the stock seat.

I have a 99 Boxster that I used to switch the seats in and out for track events. The car is now a Boxster Spec and I can go through the various seat mounting options with you. I also can take some photos and send you. I'm in Southern Calif (Burbank), so if you want to see for yourself, you can come by and check out the car. I do happen to have a Sparco Evo with mounts that I need to sell as well (switched to a containment seat on the BSR for wheel to wheel racing.) You can email me at egress [at] pacbell [period] net

Same issue with height. I ordered in used Lotus Elise seats from GB. Their passenger seats see little wear and the color matches Savannah real well. A new OEM adj. seat mount and two custom-made front mounts and I'm in business. I finally see through the windshield like most people do. And, the arm rest is really useful finally! Helps with COG as well. It's really noticeably better!

wsp- any pics of those seats in the car? How much were they? I would assume OEM Lotus seats are a bit more expensive than aftermarket race seats. Although, I do have several lotus-style seats laying around at work, albeit they are embroidered with a different logo - *cough* TESLA ....

egress- I may have to come up some time and see your car, I may be interested in that seat/mount. All the LA pelicans are meeting up for a thanksgiving drive BTW, see this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/573774-socal-thanksgiving-day-drive-2010-a.html

No problem, just drop me an email and we'll work out the details. Pelican run sounds like fun (I remember looking at the photos from last year's), but I doubt I'll be able to make it. I'm hosting Thanksgiving at my house for my family and I think my wife would kill me if I left the prep for her while I went on a drive.

Here's mine - I used Momo seats and side mounts, and made the mounting brackets myself. I would recommend using seat with holes rather than have the straps go around the sides of the seats. I have more pics - email me if you want more details or pics. I also have a way to disable the seatbelt light, with pics. Also, as info, I'm 6'4".

I've got a Recaro Profi SPG XL in my Boxster. Here's what I found....
If you put sliders on it, you probably won't be lowering the seat much at all. If you put sliders on with the Porsche GT3 seat, it won't lower you at all. They are smaller seats, but they make you sit in a much more upright position, which negates any lowering you otherwise would have gotten. The GT3 seats also severely restrict your rearward visibility if you drive it on the street and ever have to back up.

The Recaro SPG XL (or Pole Position) will lower you about 1.5 inches compared to the stock seat with the Brey Krause mounting brackets and the Recaro or Sparco sliders. If you ditch the sliders, you can mount the seat lower using the BK brackets, but you will have to modify them to work. They have some that are designed to mount to the floor, but those mounts are the same height as the other mounts plus the sliders. Go with the slider mounts and modify them.

BTW, if you need the Recaro Profi SPG XL, beware that you will lose some leg room as the seat back hits this rollbar. Also, if you use Brey Krause seat mounts, they are all made of stainless steel, and weigh a ton. My seat, with sliders and mounts, weighs very close to the same as the stock seat.

I don't mean to jack this thread, but I've also been looking for racing shell seats for my Boxster to allow me to install a full harness system for track days and to lower my seating position in the car. I'm 6'1" 190 lbs and had primarily been considering the GT3 seats, Recaro Profi SPG XL, and the Sparco EVO2 Plus.

I've been told the larger (XL/Plus) aftermarket seats require some custom fabrication to fit in the car correctly - can anyone confirm or describe this further?

I was also under the impression you could mount any of these on sliders and still be lower than the stock 986 seat. Doesn't the actual seat bucket of these shells sit lower in the car than stock or I am completely mistaken?
