Boxster almost dies...sometimes
Hi - we recently bought a 99 boxster, ~65k mi, automatic. It was in so-so condition. Got my mechanic to fix a bunch of stuff on it, but now we are having a weird issue.
Very occasionally the car starts to sputter and loses power. If you pull over, shut off the engine and start it back up, it runs perfect. If you let it sit, or try and drive, it will go on indefinately. When this happens it throws a check engine code for a fuel injector, but they said there is no issue with any of them. Mechanic thought it was a battery/ground issue but can't find anything any other ideas? |

Try cleaning the MAF sensor. My 99 did similar things. It would sputter and actually quit running, sometimes. You could immediately restart it and it would be OK. At Wayne's suggestion, I unplugged the MAF sensor for a short while, and the symptoms went away. In my case, a previous owner had installed a knock-off sensor that was worthless. Hope you find the problem quickly. Good luck.
