While I serve the country for the last 35 years, and I've giving up in shopping in Canada (land of overprice and bad customer service all around) ... I doubt that too many American are doing the reverse...

Thanks for the valuable info. I've heard similar info from other sources. It amazes me that people that do business this way somehow survive in this age. I suppose here are enough people out there that don't bother with a little research and keep businesses like this going.

A good guy just outside the GTA is Mike's 914s: specializes in the repair, restoration, and maintenance of Porsche automobiles
He does mostly 914's but he's done tons of work on 911, 924,928, 944, 914/6's etc. He worked for Alex at one time, better prices.

I bought an original durante mirror from him in "perfect condition" for $400. When I got it, the mirror needed restoration!!! The glass was clouded, rubber all white, what a disappointment. When I called him, I was SOL.
His loss though. Think off all of the business he is missing. I am spending literally thousands on parts for my 911, and that is the first and last penny he will receive from me!!! Too bad, because there are some good vendors in Canada...

Call Randy at Whale Tail. Awesome guy to deal with. Parts show up on time, on budget & as described. I will definitely deal with him again. No disappointments

And he did do that. All he had to do was say 'I am sorry, I'm not working today'. Instead he lost a customer. Actually two. |

What were you expecting? Try calling him during normal business hours, like most people would. Monday to Friday 8:30-5:00 EST. I bet he'd be happy to hear from you.

I was expecting him to either a) post his hours of operation on his website b) post a notice 'this is my cell phone, please don't call on weekends' c) answer the phone and say 'I'm sorry I can't help you today, I can ship the parts tomorrow', or d) put his calls to voicemail when he's closed.
It's not 1965, lots of businesses are open Sunday. It's not unreasonable to close Sunday, just advertise the fact you are closed, or live with the fact that some people might have a broken down car on the weekend, and they might want to buy parts. His hours of operation still aren't posted, and his web-site does not indicate he is a one man show, quite the opposite. A little courtesy and a few manners would have kept me as a customer. This all goes to the root of this thread, Nine-a-Part treats people like crap. Whale Tail did the same to me. YMMV. I will also add that when Randy had an 'associated business' in Milton I had similar treatment and so did everyone I talked to. It was no shock when that business folded. Randy may be a delight to deal with during regular hours. I will never know. Last edited by 1990C4S; 10-07-2010 at 09:55 AM.. |

I contacted Frank at N-A-P for a front right fender for my 83' SC. He quoted 500$ plus shipping. He said it wasnt in the best shape and it will need a little body work.......? I paused and asked"......uh your joking right?" Nope, he wasnt. Bought one from the states, mint for 300$ with shipping and duty. Now everything with my car comes from the states. Lesson learned.

I bought a pretty good fender from Hunter Motorsports in Mississauga, I think I paid $300.
Hunter has a nice clean well organized shop. Not the best prices maybe, but he knows what he has and he knows where everything is. Last edited by 1990C4S; 10-07-2010 at 01:20 PM.. |

I've owned my 72 911 T for 10 yrs, spent alot getting the thing back together (bot it as parts in a box from California), the first guy I called was P apart. This guy is really strange and when you try to tell him that his prices were out of line with everyone else including the dealer, he took an ape-**** over it. This guy is insane! I've bot everything else from everybody else but P Apart. I can't stand looking at his ad those Porshe World!
Poor guys that deal with him.

Only really bad experiences with nine-apart. After a few bad transactions with Frank, I went back to him again for a new ignition. A couple hours later, I was able to repair mine, called him back and he belittled me dropping eff bombs all over the place for "changing my mind and wasting his time". He ALSO ACCUSED ME OF STEALING A $20.00 REAR FUSEBOX COVER FROM HIM A YEAR EARLIER WHEN I WENT TO HIS FARM!!! He continued to SHOUT that if I ever want parts again, DON'T CALL HIM!!! OK...No probs dood. Have fun trying to turn a profit Mr. Cust Service / Biz Acumen...

And the riping continue...
I need (to hide rust damage) 4 wide Fenderwell "Garnish" for my Odyssey. Pretty well $121.20 everywhere online south of the border. Ottawa Honda $240. So I'm timing the pickup to coincide with my next PP order.
