If Scan is doing a real PPI today, why bother with a drive-by cosmetic inspection by someone tomorrow? Besides, Repo companies don't like strangers lurking on their property.

Scan will give a written report including paint, dents etc. and certainly the mechanical stuff.
Make sure to ask for a written leak-down test with numbers, not just saying: It's good. Leak-down test is more important than compression test!

If all is acceptable, have someone take pictures before shipping so there is no dispute about condition when it arrives. One never knows what happens during shipping.

Too bad, that car was a jewel when Rob owned it.

Money spent on a thorough PPI is not wasted especially when the results are disappointing.

I suspect something seriously wrong with the power-train?

Dave:

Can you share what was wrong with the car? If you are not comfortable doing it on the forum, maybe you can email me via wiese.at.sfu.ca? Car looks interesting and price looks very good, but it sounds like there is a serious problem.

I am local, but don't want to waste my time and money on another PPI if there is a serious problem.

Thanks,
Kay

Scan did the PPI for Dave and it didn't come back very well.
I sold the car to a guy named Edward Sylvan last year carrying some paper on it for a 1 year term. Payments were always late and payout was almost 60 days in arrears. He got Trinity Auto involved to finance the buyout which is now done.
I had conduct of sale and had it worked out (PPI) I would have gladly had Dave buy the car, but between the two of us we figured it would be best not.
The sale is completed and the car has been paid out.
Trinity Auto may have it for sale now, I'm not sure?

I have no problem with Dave releasing the PPI info; when I sold it a year ago it was in perfect condition, a sad story and a lesson learnt.

Cheers

Then another buyer might not run into issues

Bruni,

That sounds reasonable....................

$275.- for a thorough PPI on a turbo sounds low.

Did it include a written leak-down test?

And is the leak-down included in the $75.- you're asking??

Thanks.

Well that's an interesting perspective....

How about this, is there more that $30K worth or repairs?

To me, this is obviously a project car. A $37,700 car with 144,000 km and a poor PPI.
What is this car worth in reasonable/good condition, maybe 50-55,000. To back out of this deal, I would think the repairs would have to be substantial.

That maybe what it's worth, but 993TT are selling for 60-100K in Canada right now; don't ask me why.

Bob do your homework
144k might need valve guides turbos and 2 3 gear synco s
They are expensive cars and it takes a certain buyer for them people ask big dollars do they get that No.
They usual higher maintainace cars.
They would have been my 7th Porsche And for me it was not worth it.
Not says it needs the above mention but most require these items at one time and there goes your 30 grand
And now you still have to address the rest
Now you have a 144k car that you just spent 37 to buy and 30 k your up to 67k
Do your math?

The car is only 33 takes takes it 37
Also there is a 3000 in other fees so the car is 30 grand if that helps.
