Cool Great driving season, maybe sell one?

What a summer it was, lot's of cornering in bright sunshine with both 911 and 993.

Winter storage preps almost finished; 4 more weeks till Aruba and Hawaii.

Decide which one and put it on the For Sale site on Pelican ASAP? or in the Spring.

Great is right and these last few weeks with the sun but cooler weather that the car loves has been more than tempting ..
Made a promise to slow down but still having fun.

They do to the motorcyclist coming the other way. Or the logging truck.

Nice pic though.

Cool

Motor Vehicle Act 101 simple:

When the line is NOT solid on your side, it is perfectly legal to "stray", especially on a sunny day when you can see clearly what's coming from the other side.

Optometry 101 simple:

If you cannot see a logging truck or motorcycle on a sunny day with a clear view 1/2 km ahead, it's time to get prescription glasses.

Ah, sunny days, a few more till the end of October.

Enjoy.

What, no Speedos in AB?

Most locals don't wear anything when swimming in the Slocan River, including women.

geez Gunter, I REALLY didn't need to see that. you should warn people. it may be the most disturbing thing I've ever seen on pelican

and FWIW and not wanting to start big debate. here are my personal thoughts on center lines.

1. to be honest, when it comes to passing, the dotted/solid thing I consider more of a 'guide' than a 'carved in stone' kind of thing. although I almost never pass on a double solid.

2. one should stay in one's own lane unless passing another car.

3. it's more of a challenge to drive spiritedly and stay within your lane. if you're going hard enough that you can't avoid crossing, you're going way too fast for a public road where anything can happen.

4. nothing will scare/piss off an oncoming driver more than seeing a car in their lane for no good reason. regardless if there's any real danger. and will pretty much guarantee an irate call to the coppers which will only hurt all of us in the long run.

5. in Gunter's pic, without a car or jackrabbit in sight, it's tough to see the harm. it's nice to sometimes drive the crown of the road, you realize how much you're always holding a car against the slope of the road.

just like we learned in kindergarten, stay within the lines.

OK, getting off the soapbox now.

that said. if selling one, sell the 911. you do a lot of long drives/trips and the 993 is unquestionably more comfortable. or why not keep both? I haven't managed to figure out yet how to get by with less than three. maybe mod the 911 a little more hard core. a dedicated canyon carver. you've got lots of roads near you to have fun on.

.

Cool Who'd have thunk it? Calling Sigmund.

Photo-shopping using dresses? Tsk....tsk....tsk.

Freud and even Young (Jung for the nitpickers) would've had to say something about that.

For the language professors: Jung = means Young in German; Freud = means Joy in colloquial lower German.

Stay young at heart, think positive and read Freud or Jung about certain mental conditions.

No rush, storage first and Aruba and Hawaii this winter; nothing like sun, beaches and women to lift your spirit.
Since my picture seems to rouse the envy of some (like you should look so good at 59) , here is a pic of my companion for Scuba Diving in Aruba.

Nah, better not, might cause problems,
****pic deleted****

She loves swimming in the nuddy but I obviously can't post those pix.

Cool Intellectual Giants and..................

..............inevitable squawking crows; go for it.

Centerline-experts, armchair driving coaches, dressmakers, linguists and other touring-deprived compadres, try NE Oregon in bright sunshine sometime, it’ll lift your spirits:

What a summer.
Both 911 and 993 performed flawlessly wearing through a set of tires on each.

Think sunshine.

So here's the deal... i work for an oil field service company with 6000+ employees in 6 or so countries. We have around 3000 employees in Canada and we put on millions of miles per year.

A few years ago, one of our Nitrogen bulkers was involved in a fatality accident on a clear day. Road conditions were good.

As it was slowing to turn onto a lease road, our big semi was rear ended by a 1 ton truck hauling a gooseneck trailer with a bunch of equipment and tubulars on it. Both occupants of the 1 ton, brothers new to the oil patch from Ontario, were killed instantly when they rear ended our truck.

This took place on a long, straight stretch of highway, the kind Alberta is famous for. The family of the driver was looking at some photos on the driver's cell phone and discovered something horrible - the driver was taking photos from the driver's seat when this accident happened. The last photo he took was of the back of our truck with the brake lights on.

I presented this story and the gruesome photos at the last PCA meeting I attended. Lets just say that the general concensus at the meeting was something like, "I own a Porsche therefore I must be the world's greatest driver AND I am immune to distracted driving..."

Smarten up Gunter, put your camera away and focus on driving. From what I have read on this forum, maybe you arent such a great driver after all.

Oh and if you want to impress the ladies, the potato goes in the front of the speedos...

Cool More fan mail.

And the point is? Albertans are great drivers?

Feast your eyes on this and think positive:

Potato? Nah, more like tomato.

Aruba will be fun but it's only about 30 Miles long, not optimal for spirited driving but great for Scuba. Snow will be flying soon enough here, brrrr...........

My point is that taking pictures while driving is dangerous, regardless of road conditions.

Oh, and since when were Aruba and Hawaii so elusive that only you are able to travel there? We could care less that you are going there as nearly everyone on this board has visited either of those places before. You are like a broken record reminiscent of the guy with the mustang on the off topic board.

Smile Think Sunshine............

You don't sound very happy, time for some fun in the sun?

University of ONO studies found that many people in AB are depressed because of the toxic vapors from the Tarsands creating havoc in the brain by suppressing normal interactions between neurons.

Still don't understand why someone would take a picture of the back of a truck?

A mustang on a board? I'd like to see that. Is it on U-tube?

I hope everybody can go to Hawaii or any of the other fabulous places in the world.

Happy days in cowtown.

Hey Gunter, keep taking pictures from the driver's seat. Hopefully nobody else gets hurt...

Have a nice time in Hawaii and Aruba. Make sure you take some pictures and post them here, and we know you will. We can hardly wait.

How was the CanAm drive this spring? Do you have any photos of that?

Wink Pros and Cons..........

CanAm this year was more like Rainfest 2012. As a “bad” driver, I wasn’t invited and I wouldn’t have gone anyway. Why? The golden days of CanAms are in the past, IMHO.
Both CanAm and Dan’s Monster Runs were really exiting but in the last couple years too many cars participate and the event looks more like a funeral procession. A string of Porsches attract attention especially when the “Pack Mentality” of irresponsible drivers takes over. Everybody has Cell phones and when idiots start racing, Police is called and the whole group is pulled over as has happened a few times......That's not for me.
I think the ideal size of a group is about 5-6 vehicles.

The disadvantage of setting fixed tour days means if it rains, you’re stuck. Being independent, I just pick days of sunshine and go. If you want to see pictures of Porsches driving in the rain, find the CanAm thread and have fun.

No more pix of Hawaii or Aruba because people know what beaches look like but may post some from Easter Island and Machu Picchu? Stay tuned.

Better yet, get out and drive.
