Duffy new speed limit
Drove the Duffy Monday, and back again today. The good news, almost 75% is new pavement, the bad news, all the new paved sections are now 60km speed limit. That's the majority of the route.
Ironically the old worst paved section is still 80 km! Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the speed limit 80Km before the improvements five years ago ? I may have to move to the USA, where driving 25 miles over the limit isn't considered a capital offense or ride the Duffy with my bicycle and hope I don't get a speeding ticket on the down hill stretches!

we can thank the people of british columbia for voting in such nice laws like this. They have completed a 2 lane section south of prince george 2 lanes both ways.80 km an hour all the way thru.we should all move to alberta or the usa.Speed only accounts for less the 2% of all traffic fatalities. That was a study done by a person who worked for icbc.

Saw this article in The Province newspaper....
Now, John Ferry is an ultra right wing redneck. I enjoy his articles most of the time. He made several very good points in the article that I have to agree with. Nail bad drivers, don't reduce B.C. speed limits The part that jumped out for me........ B.C.'s top speed limit is 110 km/h (as on the Coquihalla and Island highways), but on most provincial highways the highest legal speed is 100 km/h. And it's been 10 years since a study by Michigan traffic engineer Martin Parker found speed limits on hundreds of kilometres of B.C. roads appeared to be too low, and suggested the maximum speed be raised to 120 km/h. Parker said crashes seemed to depend less on raw vehicle speed than on speed variations: "The likelihood of a crash occurring is significantly greater for motorists travelling at speed slower, and faster, than the mean speed of traffic." Ian Tootill, of the Vancouver-based motoring group SENSE, told me Tuesday he's asked for a meeting with B.C.'s new transportation minister, Todd Stone, to discuss finally implementing Parker's recommendation to raise speed limits. I support him. It isn't speed that's killing us. It's bad driving ... and rules of the road that are seriously out of touch with the way most motorists drive. Don't hold your breathe ladies and gents................

To add,
There isn't a politician alive with the balls to reverse the trend. Well, perhaps there is, but we are stuck with the current momentum as the pendulum swings to the "left" on this crap. Likely will take another decade before we see more realistic speed limits. Having just driven across the US this summer, they do have more realisticv speed limits. Even the damn 18 wheelers are travelling at 70 to 75 mph. The rest of the traffic flow is in the 75 to 85 range. Have to agree with Gunter (did I say that??)...we need to head south.
