Porsche electrician needed!

Hi,

Hoping I can get a recommendation for someone or someplace between Toronto and Ottawa--Kingston area preferred--that could help me or, better yet, sort out my '82 928 electrical gremlins.

Sigh, after much grounds cleaning, CE board work, relay testing and swapping I finally got my car to start and run again but, now the horn, foglights and turn signals have quit. And so have I. Well, I'd like to take a rest and would be happy to pay someone to work this one out.

I can deliver the car, pick you up or meet you half-way-in-between.

Roger

Electrical gremlins can be a challenge.

I understand your frustration. Been there and done that.

I had an endless list of electrical problems with my 911. Wires burnt, connections burnt, wires broken and a bunch of ugly DIY splicing done with those *****ty clamp connectors.

Compounding this, I cut the after market alarm out of the car without understanding what it was connected to. Oops!! Nothing worked after this.

I went through every wire connection point and component cleaning and tightening the connections. Replaced all the fuses and relays - cleaning and tightening the connections.

Replaced wires that needed to be replaced by soldering and shrink wrapping the splices.

Took me weeks. But, the car runs like new - everything works - and I learned that German wiring isn't always the best.

I found a great deal of patience is required to chase electrical problems.

Good luck.

I had the exact same issue, turned out to be my 4 way module/switch (on the dash). As for the horns, they were so old that I had to connect them directly to a fresh 12volt batter to get the diaphragms to loosen up to work.

Thanks, Charlie.

Y'know, my first thought was to say goodnight for the winter, move it into the garage and replace each and every wire in the car, buy an updated CE and say 'sayonara' to every switch, relay and fuse. But then I thought it would seem like an interminable time before I got to drive the car again given all the other projects I have on the go.

At the same time, part of me hoped that no one would take me up on my offer which, in the end, would force me to strip and assemble the wiring by myself which would result in, I'm sure, a tremendous amount of self-satisfaction. Still, I would think of it as a 'treat' to get some professional help now and then if it meant I could extend the driving season a bit.

Decisions, decisions.

I'll start there! Thanks!

And as for the horns, they were working before the 'great no-start mystery' began...

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

Perfect. Thank you. I now have two solid leads and one wonderful volunteer (as it were).

Thanks all!
