Porsche Club members in Canada?

Just a random question to see how many Pelican forum members in the Canada forum are also PCA members in their local region. there is no right or wrong answer, just curious, debating joining again or not, would like to know more about why you continue to join or why you don't or are not interested in joining.

I'm a 15 year member in Upper Canada Region.
I got hooked on the DE events started in the green group and eventually to the red (instructor) group.
I also attend a few socials as well.
I've met a great group of people and formed friendships with some.
Depending on the region there is alot to do, but you can get involved as well. Every event is run by volunteers and they're always looking for volunteers.

I'm a member. I don't get out much for events here in Calgary, as with 3 young kids in tow, the driving events aren't really suited to us. But I get out to a few events over the year and really enjoy the people. I am hoping that if (when) we get a track back in action near Calgary we can get back to some track events!

Ok so here is my rant...
I used to belong to the PCA Wild Rose, but have not renewed for a few years, Same as Keith not alot of events suited to my taste Yes we need a track.. So back to my rant, i buy alot of parts from The Wild Rose site, i just found out that in order for me to continue to use the forum site i have to be a paid member of the Club, and i can only view the site and unfortunately by only viewing the site it does not give you the details of the seller, i should point out that i also access other PCA site within Canada and also buy parts, however i dont have to be a paid member in order to do so. OK so i am i cheap SOB by not joining, and yes i understand that sites like our host here have sponsors that keep this site up for us to use and thanks for that, its invaluable. Just wondering if other PCA Canada members are also making it mandatory to have a paid membership in order to use their forum? IS there anyone who belong to other clubs beside the regional PCA?

I used to be a member of the Miata club in Edmonton and you have to be a member to use their forum. I am not a PCA member as I find that I need to be independent and don't like the dues. Perhaps I am cheap. I think for me it would be good to get together with a couple of Boxster owners once in a while for a coffee or a drive. I don't like the rigid structure of these clubs. I get where you are coming from.....G

I am a long time PCA (41 years) member and in fact founded Canada West Region (the first PCA Region in Canada) in April of 1975! Still actively involved in the Region. Our members get 15% discount on parts and labour and accessories at Porsche Centre Vancouver and that alone saves me literally hundreds of $ per year. However, the real thing is the people I've met and become friends with. It's not the cars it's the people. Over the years I've owned/driven 13 Porsches (still have 2) and have a Macan coming.

I've been a member of the Wildrose PCA for the last 4 years and have been very pleased with the events planned by the council and various members. In fact last night at our monthly meeting, we had an excellent presentation and slide show on the 24H of Le Mans, presented by Gary Leadbetter, president of the WCMA and a long time PCA DE instructor. It was quite entertaining! Additionally there are over ten events and drives planned this summer/fall...I usually try to attend 4-5 of those, all in good fun! I'm quite sure that if there was an event that would suite you more, WRR would be pleased to hear about it!

Cheers!

Alex

I live on an island in between Vancouver and Victoria so can't easily attend many events put on by the clubs. Every year however I attend a couple (in both Van and Vic...and on occasion, Washington state). The events are always well done, really good value for the money and I've met many people that I now consider friends. For $50 a year, I consider it a no-brainer, especially now with the quality of the new monthly magazine. The club itself doesn't fulfill all my Porsche networking requirements since most members are not "hands on" owners like myself. Each region seems to have a different take on the security of their site. Technically I'm a member of Vancouver Island but I used to be able to post on the lower mainlands site. Despite being a PCA member, the club in Vancouver restricted access to only local club members....that was a little unneighbourly. Anyway place me in the "Pro" camp. Cheers

PCA member since I bought the car in 2007.
Getting Pano every month is worth the price of admission for me. The new editor and format of the magazine makes it even more worthwhile.
I signed up for Wildrose Region again this year.
While I don't have time to do a lot of their events, there are a couple of them I particularly like.
Don't know if the BBQ Turner Valley will happen again this year but the garage day BBQ is a good one with lots of variety of cars and people.
Would like to see more of the aircooled stuff. The waterpumpers are more and more prominent these days.

Welcome to UCR, calimedeiros! If you're free, plan to come out to the Launch Into Spring event on April 27 - good chance to meet some members and show off your car.

LAUNCH INTO SPRING 2014 - On April 27th, join UCR's official welcome to the long-awaited Spring season taking place at 427 Auto Collision, the newest member of Porsche's Certified Collision Centres, at 395 Evans Avenue, west of Kipling, in Etobicoke. They have 79,000 sq ft of space to accommodate our vendors and bring our Show and Shine indoors. This year, we also have enough space for a Porsche Parts Swap, so members are invited to bring in their spare parts for sale or trade. Space is limited, so visit the UCR website for more details on how to reserve.
We are pleased to again welcome Porsche Cars Canada, Mantis Racing, Dent Doctor OnWall Garage Solutions and other vendors. Also new this year will be Downtown Porsche and we are delighted to have this great supporter of PCAUCR join us. So mark your calendar for April 27, 2014 10-3 pm, detail your Porsche and come out and say hello to Spring. A BBQ will be available with proceeds going to The Children’s Wish Foundation.

I find also that the WWR is mostly water based, with only few like our's that are air-cooled, i have been to the BBQ's and some run's and there good, more so if your water based, i do wish there was more air cooled, and more air cooled based companies that would do more tech days styled for air cooled, really when i go to a tech day and see a water cooled being worked on, it has no interest for what i drive, i do like the water cooled, 944, 968, 911, dont get me wrong, but its not what i own, i like getting dirty and taking apart my car, i dont need a computer to help me tune or even drive my car, i am old school and would like to see clubs start keeping records of recent builds and restores, and getting as much info from people like the gentleman from Turner Valley with the 912, his knowledge is so valuable, that it should be documented for future members, the same for others who work on their Porsche's air or water cooled, it needs to be documented, and made available, i personally know quite a few Porsche owners who are not current WWR members for one reason or another, who also do their own work, i think we are missing out on what could be a very good thing for the WWR, Sites like our host here are so valuable to us all, just thought that it would also be nice to have on a more local level, a resource of past and present, and the local people who may be able to help others. i know bla bla bla......

I'm a bit with you. The few OG 911 owners I've met locally were either through pelican or just owners with 911s who I bumped into and got talking with about the cars.

I'm a Polar Region member in Edmonton and was formerly involved in the WWR prior to moving to Edmonton in 2002.
The main reason I pay my PCA dues is for the Panorama magazine.
I attend very few events and I'm not very involved in the club. Most local events are too pricy or not family friendly (two young daughters). Of course this can only be addressed by talking directly with the local region and being more involved.
All in all being a PCA member is not a bad thing, but like everything else you'll only get the return or value for your money by being active and contributing in a positive or constructive manner.

Canada West Region removed the CWR Member requirement on their website about 2+ years ago. No restrictions now.

I've been a PCA-Canada West Region member since 2006. PCA-CWR website is not restricted, anyone can post. Porsche Club of America - Canada West Region
