Emissions testing a 993 with 930 motor

OK, so a buddy of mine has a 993 rolling chassis that he's parting out. I was thinking about getting the 6 speed G50 from him to put in my 1975 chassis, but reading about the conversion work involved, i'm not sure I want to commit to that work. So I had this sick fantasy that maybe I can get the 993 rolling chassis with tranny from him and put my 3.3 turbo motor in it, avoid all the extra fabrication and create a 993 Clubsport or GT2 look hotrod. But then I have to worry about emissions right? Do you think it would be impossible to make a 3.3 turbo pass emissions in a 993 chassis? Maybe its not worth the hassle.

I think how the new rules read you can do it, but the engine has to have all the emissions devices for the year of the engine. It (engine) also may have to be stock with stock intake, FI, etc.
You would have to research and know exactly what you can do before starting the project.

Also be aware that your car may be considered a "hot rod" and I'd definetly check how that will affect your insurance.

Of course if you need any help on your projects I'm real close to Oshawa.

I've rebuilt a G50 (and 901,911,915,930) and I converted my '67 bug to a 911 (901) transmission. So I have a good idea any way you decide to go.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

Hi Mark, i'm sorta day dreaming on this as I think the emissions will be the killer on this. Also the car has a bunch of front end damage that also needs to be fixed, may not be worth the effort.

I think we PM'd last year or so about meeting up as my mother lives in Port Hope. i'll try to plan a trip out there in my car and see if you're free.

I had a Boxster that I swapped a 996 3.6 engine into. Was no issue to etest it as a 'hotrod' as it just had to meet emissions specs for a pre-1980 vehicle which it did easily. If I recall there are differences based upon the model year of the vehicle into which the swap was done.

I'd have to say those two engines are very close, I would guess you can run them both of the same OE engine management systems and most common wrenches would never even know the difference.

Puddy's talking about putting an 930 aircooled turbo engine in a 996. Totally different animals. The big tell would be when they try to plug into the OB2 port for an emissions test.
For emissions all they do now is plug in the OB2 and look for codes, if the codes are obviously wiped it's a fail.

we're lucky here in Sask, no emissions regulations. Send her over here! I'll give it a good home
