I guess like buying any car you'd need to check it out.
It's not a genuine 74 RS as these are wide bodied, and are worth mega $$$. But it's not a deposit scam, because I buy stuff of the guy. But I have heard people in the know refer to a 74 carrera as RS but only in relation to the 73 because it is basically a 73 RS with a G series body, and I have seen these go for 70 - 80k range in good nic, that was a few years back, looking at what some old holdens are pulling now, a good genuine 74 Carrera could ask even more than 80k. If anyone knows if one of these have sold recently I guess some of us would be interested to know.

My research shows the following:
They built a number of Carrera RS 3.0 and Carrera RSR 3.0 models. Some of these were IROC cars delivered to Roger Penske and Mark Donohue. The racing chassis ran from 9114609001-9114609109 with engine numbers running from 664001-6640200 and 109 were built. 15 IROC cars were built with the following chassis number 9114600016, 0025, 0035, 0037, 0040, 0042, 0050, 0059, 0075, 0085, 0090, 0100, 0111, 0116, 0124. These were delivered to Roger Penske. The VIN on this is 9114600152 which is similar to an IROC number but not one I have listed. The advert states its a 2.7 litre. The engine number does not match anything I have.

The chassis number on the ad is for a ROW 1974 2.7 Carrera - these are very rare (current weapon of choice for winning Group Sc Historic Racing) and came with the same engine as the '73 RS.
The engine number is also correct (from the info I have) for a ROW 2.7 Carrera complete w/ MFI - I don't know if the numbers match, though I'd assume they do. In my mind, this is very reasonably priced... especially considering the recent sales. |

Nick,
The engine number is wrong, he has stated that it's not the engine that come with the car. The first 2 digits indicate 3 ltr Carrera, the 3rd digit indicate 1974 but it's supposed to be 2.7. I have a feeling when they changed the case in japan they must have randomly punched in the engine number.

There was also a 2.1 turbo RSR in 74 with the massive tail on the rear

Hey Hung, I've just had a look at the numbers on the 2.7's we have - they both start with 66 (as does the C3).
1974 - 664 1975 - 665 1976 - 666 Maybe the 66 was for Carrera's in general. Cheers, Nick ps - when's your next meeting? I'm planning on entering Sandown in November. |

You are most probably right about 66.
Next race sometime next year, work commitment in oct-nov can't do either Winton or Sandown.

Did some more checking and 664 indeed is 1974 Carrera but 6649029 is not in the range.

I have a friend who is looking to sell his 1974 U.S. Carrera if anyone is interested. This is a totally well documented original and truly stunning car... took second in San Diego concours at Parade. Only one of 28 of 528 in Gulf Blue and 1 of only 3 with (hood badge delete) 911 hood stripes graphics.

Actually, he's not dreaming. The car was taken off ebay when a buy it now offer was made. The deal didn't go through... he is now in discussion with another party in Europe. This original car is in excellent mechanical condition and was a favorite of Hans Peter Porsche at Parade based on his comments as he took several pictures. IMHO values of these cars are being pulled along by the Euro Carrera.

My appoligies to Matty & Cooln, I thought you were referencing the US Carrera I posted.
![]() FWIW... I spoke to the owner of this car to get my facts straight ![]() ![]() The ebay auction on this car ended at $41,600 US without meeting the set reserve price and the buy it now price was $55k. At the end of the auction the owner received a call with an offer of $47,500 for the car pending replacement of the worn original seats. That deal fell through and the car went back up for sale however, he did not put it back on ebay. It is currently still for sale and being considered for purchase by a buyer out of Europe given the weak US dollar. Sorry for my confusion
