Waterworld was no worse than most of its peers. Unless you believe the critics.

Name a movie that you really like that didn't get a good review or rating. I'll start:

"2 Days in the Valley" (1996)

James Spader
Jeff Daniels
Danny Aiello
Charlize Theron
Teri Hatcher

Eric Stoltz

A black comedy. It came and went from the theaters quickly and faded away. Rotten tomatoes gives it 59%. I just watched it and loved it. Some good stars very early in their careers. A very young Charlize Theron (Atomic Blond) nude and Teri Hatcher in panties should be worth at least 85%

Ditto on Hudsucker and History...

Barry was Kubrick, well done but it was missing something.

Never saw vice.

For instance, when watching an action flick or a comic book/super hero movie, I'm not looking for really deep substance. I'm looking for entertainment with lots of flashy lights and loud noises

When watching a comedy, I'm not looking for the underlying social commentary. I'm looking to laugh whether it's a funny joke or a smart joke or a fart joke or whatever.
My dog likes watching bright and shiny objects to.

I find most of the new blockbuster action flicks and comedies insipid...blow em up and moronic and droll comedy. NO character development, no dialog, no plot..just special fx's and stupid jokes that are not funny. I won't ...can't watch them.

A Fish Called Wanda..John Cleese of Monty Python...British humor at it's best.

Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels...Guy Richie, the dialog was sharp and witty.

The Road to Perdition, Millers Crossing, Usual Suspects, LA Confidential, Training Day, Devil In A Blue Dress, Das Boot are examples of well developed plots, dialog and characterization. Satisfying movies.

Another great movie was Richard Lesters (Hard Days Night) The Three Musketeers and the sequel The Four Musketeers....all star cast....the interplay was perfection.

The question is UNDER RATED MOVIES

Ballad Of Cable Hogue...Peckinpah...an unpretentious quite low key movie.

Here is one that is a total SLEEPER...

Disorganized Crime...

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097211/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_50

It is a low budget that has an all star cast...with a sharp plot and execution. Funny

Kiss Me Stupid..Billy Wilder..with Ray Walston, Kim Novak and Dean Martin. Wilder never did anything bad.

1, 2, 3... Another Wilder comedy...with Jimmy Cagney.

Billy Wilder was a fkin genius...

I second A History of Violence. It's a super underrated movie.

One of the best scenes in the movie is where the son takes on the high school bully

I loved this movie. Van Halen never looked more edible.

My offering for this list is Kung Fu Hustle. Stylish martial arts and classic good versus evil with humor. Sweet storyline too.

I went to see 'The Meg' a week ago and was very pleasantly suprised. I was only expecting some popcorn summer flick somewhat better than a SyFy channel production, but it was very well done with excellent direction, had a great story, and the characters were believable. I knew Jason Statham and Rainn Wilson were in it, so I didn't think it could be horrible, but it was several levels better than I imagined it would be. It had a sense of humor that helped break the tension like Jaws did and also had several cool tributes to Jaws with things happening like the shark pulling the boat backwards at one point.

Sure, there were a couple of "that's ridiculous" moments, but it was a lot of fun and was glad I saw it in the theatre for all the same reasons Jaws was great in the theatre.

I don't rate a movie like this on a snooty "will it even be mentioned at the Oscars?" scale... but I'll definitely rate it a 10 on the fun and entertaining scale and I generally stay away from action flicks... especially superhero movies.

horrible scores on rotten tomatoes but I think it's an absolute blast of a movie. great scenery, fun characters and a lot of fun equipment running around.
