As a tech I fought the big G for decades... but a few years back I realized their tentacles are in everything plus if you are on the internet in any way shape or form the big computer in the sky has all your info anyway.

I have to admit when I killed my android phone it was pretty cool to just click restore on the new phone and it recreated my old apps, settings, calendar/phone book and everything.

it is like the people saying they don't buy anything made in China, do you have a smart phone?

^^^^ yep...I gave up too . Though I was a techie's techie my whole career, it was by pure chance that I knew about G from just about day 1....had NO idea what it would become, and by then....too late .

That cute little "hippie chick" was the girlfriend (now wife) of one of the first 60 employees....the chef . They've done quite well since then....good people too.

Gotta be honest. I enjoy guns, and I don't see how not having to some silly app hinders either my access or enjoyment of them.

I don't have an Android phone, so this doesn't impact me. BUT, it's the selective elimination of some apps but not others that becomes troubling from a freedom of speech standpoint. Especially considering that this is the company that controls what your internet search results yield.

Btw, Gunbroker is still available in the Apple App store.

Most of the time, these apps are not as good as using the mobile website. But the real issue is Google, like with the YouTube bans, is banning legal products from their marketplace.

This doesn't surprise me.
I don't know why they picked on GunBroker, there are dozens of other apps that associate with guns, hunting, shooting, reloading, etc. If "G" doesn't do the same thing to the remaining apps/companies, I would think that GB would have grounds for a nice juicy little lawsuit!

They don't allow MJ advertising either. Legal in some places to some age range of people, but not in others. Quite similar IMO.
Your opinion would be wrong. Firearms are legal in all 50 states with restrictions. Marijuana is illegal in all 50 states. It is a schedule 1 drug.

Yes, but the issue is....

Are there equals for:

Facebook
Twitter
Pinterest
Youtube
instragram

If these platforms censor things they don't like, is that not wrong? The CEO of twitter called his platform a "Public Square". If so, then the 1st Amendment applies. And if they try to silence certain beliefs or censor ideas and products, they are certain to come under regulation.

They’re applying the same principles here.
First they censored the Chinese, but I didn't care for I am not Chinese....

Yes, but this is google we're talking about here.

Not facebook.

As for places that host videos, yes, there are alternatives to youtube.

I have a vimeo account.

They will block it one day, if enough social pressure is applied.

I run my own servers, as long as the Feds don't get involved and I'm not sending spam, my hosting provider doesn't care.

I tend to agree, except many government websites, such as my city, will not function properly without google java script allowed.
They are cough known to have other government contracts...
Thus a vertical trust issue might become relevant.

An interesting situation. How much actual market share is required to be considered a 'monopoly' with no alternatives available?

That is the way it works unless you are Masterpiece Cakeshop.
No, not really the same thing, at all.

Google Play Store, their version of iTunes App Store.

The retailer decided to stop carrying a sku.

Happens all the time.

Google just needs to declare itself a church. Let the US government start regulating religion.

I'm going to declare my life's purpose a religion. No more tax liability for me.

Where is the States involvement here?

Because without it, the 1st does not apply.

It used to be any businesses' business was it's own damn business.
Not anymore.
That may be a good thing when the law is applied and enforced fairly but I doubt that will happen.

It's a long shot(cough) in consumer law but:
It could be related to 'steering' by a business if a certain majority culture is involved.
Suppressing one major venue or commerce outlet will deliberately push customers towards another venue.
Nobody can claim that the google/amazon/facebook/etc giants don't have yuge computer algorithms working on that furiously right now.
