Jacob that’s a damn nice car, I’ve always loved the styling. To me they are a German take on an American muscle car.

Thanks. Each time I drive it I change my mind about selling. Its a lot of fun, and easily the best automatic trans I have ever used (haven’t experienced PDK or other dual clutch “manumatics”).

Agree that its a muscle car...I refer to the CLK as my German Camaro. AMGs are real animals...it has such a different character than my other MBs (R129, W210), even though it shares many components with them.

The V8's are like the V-12's; disposable.

As long as they run they are great, but when you have an engine or transmission problem the car is a parts car.

Had a 2009 S63 AMG. Loved it while it was under the extended warranty. Maintenance nightmare without a warranty. $3400 just for the front brakes...this is rotors and pads. $4k when the air suspension leaked. $600k when a climate control blower stopped working. $500 for key replacement if needed. Luckily I did not have any of these problems out of warranty. Having said all that it was a damn nice car and if you're mechanical and can fix this stuff yourself, you'll love the car. If you have to go to a dealer, its painful.

$600,000 for a climate control blower, so you're saying I have to sell the house and cash in the 401k to keep cool (or warm)?...that's quite pricey.

What years and models are you referring to?

The cars in Post #1. I would not want to fix either one.

My ancient W140 400SE has been great. It's my daily and I've had it just over 18 month!
The small issues it had when I bought it have been sorted and for not a lot of money.

New car reliability in a 26 year old car?

My biggest problem right now... What do I replace this with?

^this is true with pretty much any 15-20 year old vehicle. You can buy low mile 15-20 year old MBs in good shape for 10k or less all day long. Some can be nightmares for sure, but pick a good one and you’ll be hard pressed to find a better vehicle at that price point. 2 of my 3 were acquired from the original owners...that’s the best way if you can find one.

I dearly love my W210 diesel. If it has engine or trans trouble I will probably spend the time and $ to fix even though it doesn’t make financial sense because its the finest road cruiser I have owned.

It's been a few days since a post on this subject so I hope I am safe and not hijacking the thread? But, are these maintenance issues the same with the say a 2011-2015 E class convertible? I've seen a few from the high teens to mid twenties, with under 50K on the clock.
