For me, one of the best things about getting older is no longer wanting to acquire things. I've had fine cars, bikes, and an airplane over the years and got that out of my system. No plans to upgrade or change any of my property.

When I was young, I often had more money in my pockets than in the bank*
Now I can carry the same $20 bill for a month and could buy anything but won't.
And instead off spending that $20, I usually just slip it to one of the kids when they visit. Just because.

*cept on some Saturday mornings, when I woke up with a bunch of crumpled up ones in my front pocket

Great things.........

Don't have to pretend to be politically correct!
Retired, getting paid to breath!
Senior discounts!
Watching the kids make the same mistakes you did!
The look on kids faces when I drive my Porsche! (Not fair, an old fart driving a cool car!)
etc, etc.

I like that. Never had an airplane or boat. I don't buy things that cost a lot of money to own (says a guy who has had 7 Porsches). But, yeah, it's all not interesting anymore.

Now tools, well that's different. And they feed me.

When I am asked "what do you want for Christmas (or birthday)" I can honestly say "nothing". If I wanted it I got it for myself.

Not fair...and from their TV ads, I got the impression that the only people at Sandals were horney & beautiful youngsters. What the hell were you doing there?

Yep, I'm among those with lack of desire to acquire things. As I've posted here before, the more stuff you have, the more stuff you have to take care of...and that's a hassle.

^ boy is that ever the truth. More stuff =s more maintenance =s less time to do fun stuff.

After 35 years of corporate BS, no longer have the Sunday dreaded feeling, of going to work tomorrow.

BP fell 10 points when I quit and no more heart palpitations. Try to get one thing accomplished each day and do one fun thing, which includes busting knuckles.

Why old guys don't get jobs:

Interviewer: "What is your greatest weakness?"

Old Guy: "I'm too honest."

Interviewer: "I don't think honesty is a weakness"

Old Guy "I don't give a fuch what you think".

Another great thing,

I last week I was cleaning out some of the Porsche stuff from my closet. Stuff I have had for years, and never really looked at or used, or even showed to anyone. OK, I don't need it.
I filled up a grocery sack, and took it with me to our local PCA Christmas party. I gave away some of the stuff as door prizes. The cooler stuff, I auctioned off, and told everyone the proceeds go to charity. I gathered $230 cash money. I am the club treasurer, so I deposited it in the club account and then wrote a check on the club account for the $230 and delivered that check today to the The Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital, in Bethany OK.
https://www.miracleshappenhere.org/
As a club we donated a Cayenne full of toys as well.
I cleaned out my closet just a little, and it went to a good cause.

Good:
I am not going to have to sneak downstairs to put that bicycle together (and pray that all the parts are there).
Better:
I didn't have to sweat finding the toy my kid wanted and was sold out in every store.
Best:
I will not bet getting up at the crack of dawn because the kiddo wants to know what is in those boxes under the tree.

My bride doesn't deal with "that time of the month" or menopause any longer. Less emotional roller coasters.

Yep, been that way for the long time. As I get closer to my birthday or Christmas, I deliberately spot just buying whatever, and just put it in a wish list. When my wife asks wfor suggestions for presents for me, I just send her the list. That way I get precisely what I needed, or wanted.

I got a cool new endoscopy (bore-scope) that is wi-fi connected to my cell phone. High def, and very easy to use. Now I just need a project that needs it!

Is this thread a joke? There is nothing great about getting older. You just make the best of it.

If you know how to live and are having fun here on earth, as opposed to putting in time at some soul-crushing job or being married to someone you just tolerate, then life is like a great movie w a sad ending. A fun ride in a meat suit on a leafy planet. Would you rather be on the early part of the ride, water skiing and trying to control a persistent hard-on or heading for the nursing home?

Not trying to be morose, I'm almost 60 and making the best of it. Still have most of my health and working and traveling, etc. But let's not BS ourselves, gentleman. That accomplishes nothing, IMO.
