I like that I'm more focused on what I want/like and not on impressing anyone. I was never really a slave to fashion or trends but I'm out of touch now and dont mind one bit. Spending time in the workshop is often as much or more fun than I have 'out'.

i once heard a doom/gloom comedian say:

"not only is my glass half full, what's in the glass taste like chit...."

i laughed my ass off..but now, seeing the guy, i think he was seriously channeling his real life when he drafted that joke. no thank you..not for me.

I have met you (and your father) - you look like you are twelve, at least to me!

I am getting ancient.

Agree but that happened for me when I was pretty young.

Respectfully, IMO you sound like a grouchy old coot that can't enjoy the things that are better because you are mad that you are not young anymore. I would now humorously surmise that your favorite holiday greeting is "Bah, humbug". Again, I pity you if all you can see are things lost and that you're going to die sooner than later. I sincerely hope you can adjust your view so that you don't squander your remaining days.

Now on to more positive:
I am not held quite so strictly accountable for remembering things because "old people don't remember so well...". It sure can come in handy from time to time.
You've completely misinterpreted what I wrote. Maybe it's an age related thing on your part(?) I'm not grouchy in the least and not old yet, in fact I probably have the youngest lifestyle of anyone my age on earth. I'm surrounded by youth, beauty, happiness and good health. I ski, ride motorcycles, drive sports cars, date younger women and travel the world. I have interesting friends, a huge extended family and money.

While I don't look forward to actually getting old after caring for both parents to their death recently, I'm not the least bit afraid or resentful about it, or if I am, it's not on a conscience level. What I find silly is people living in denial about their mortality and/or pretending that getting old is "great." That is BS, and being in denial or delusional does not add to my happiness. If it does for you, rock on.

Getting old is great, even wonderful when compared to the only other alternative. Every day above ground and out in the open and free, is great.

Feeling settled in myself. I know who I am, my values, my goals, likes and dislikes and am fine with them. If people don’t like them, that’s cool, I can easily live with that because I am surrounded by friends who do. If people give me a hard time, I still consider them friends and don’t push them away just because they think differently. I don’t live for others but myself. Many learned that early on, and I consider them lucky and smart. I am just a slow learner. Some things never change.

You are absolutely correct, to a point. I use to always joke about old age, saying that "it beats the hell out of being dead."

After what I've gone through w my parents, at some point that is not true, IMO. Enjoy it while it's good, though.

Done both and being alive is much more fun but when I go I want to go the way I went

I've told my kids never put me in an old folks home but take me to Switzerland for one of those one way ticket spa breaks

Ditto. Right now, my wife & I are in our golden years. Retired and healthy enough to enjoy ourselves. Knock on wood.

Speedy, I think you have missed the point of this thread right from the start. As I stated in my most recent post:

I probably have pushed you to feeling that you need to justify yourself by telling us how much you have fun and are successful prosperous. Although I am glad you feel validated, I can't say that statistically means much. The greatest percentage of depression and suicide is from the wealthiest folks. If you are happy, good for you. I hope you can find happiness when and if you aren't prosperous or healthy cause it can come about at any time.

One more thing that is great about getting older (PARF worthy disclaimer so stop reading if you will be offended)
I believe there is an eternity after this life and my destination will be better than this world. As such, the worst case scenario is even if this life is tough, I am that much closer to a better place. I look at it like being closer to going on a permanent and perfect vacation. Think: less years left of taxes, colds, jerks cutting me off in traffic, disappointments... Some say my belief is delusional. I'm not here to argue whether I am right or wrong. Just that for me, getting closer to death is a good thing. I'm getting closer to vacation.

What's so great about getting older.

Doctor's prescribe and insurance pays for the drugs you used to have to pay for to take recreationally.

What opioid epidemic?

Yes. Totally. But its a moving target, at least a little bit. 90 is the new 86.

And really, the freedom again (childhood and retirement) is really something special.

I’m shooting for 85. By my calculations, which are almost always in error, the money will have run out, my health will have given out and it will be time for me to check out.

I'm glad someone brought this up....i'm not afraid of dying either, I know all of my pain and suffering will be relieved, and I will be in a MUCH better place after my time on earth has expired.....rather like an eternal vacation as well.
