It was touching to see the growing number of flowers and red caps throughout the last couple of weeks. I saw a family with two little kids laying flowers at lunch time; they drove to the factory just to do that. I saw one of the security guys speaking to the dad as they were about to drive away, so I hope they at least got a tour of the reception area.
Sadly I never got to meet him in person, but by all accounts he was loved by all. To always tell it like it is, and to walk the walk - one couldn't ask for much more in life, I think. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I see where Ham crashed on Friday, he hasn't been higher than 3rd yet, he'll have to dig deep today (bout half hour from now) if he intends to sit on pole. Leclerc strong
this race looks like he might have pole in the bag. So I'm going for the underdog, Ham, to fight his way to front row. Should be fun to watch. |

But - they are amazing machines. Esteban set a new record - 1:15 on a longer track than the previous 1:20 Indy car record. The 2016 car is materially slower than the 2019 cars, so there's another few seconds if they wanted to improve. I was 3' away from the car in the garage (anyone could walk in), and right above it in the pits. It's so cool that Merc flew the car in for the event. It was next to Alberto Keller's 1939 W154 which sounded amazing - and the smells reminded me of old 0.49 cox engines. I took a bunch of photos and videos. At T2 I took a video of Race Group 2 (1955-59) and the W07 - the difference is staggering. https://www.sonomaspeedfestival.com ![]() ![]() ![]()

I don't understand keeping Verstappen in the pits until everybody else went out. Hamilton and Bottas did flying laps 3 minutes before end of qualifying, why risk it just to get into Q3?

Hambone and Bottas both sandbagged quali.
Another 1-2 finish for Merc in store? Ferrari finds a new way to shoot themselves in the foot? Bill K

Maybe they just let the stewards do it...

Nope, the stewards screwed Vettle. I used to envy the folks that watched F1 on Sky. No longer. WTF do two or three announcers talk at the same time? It makes it impossible to hear anything they say. And it happens all the time.

Did the Hambone win? He always seems to go pretty well in Canada...
I forget who’s turn it is. |

What a hollow victory ! Too many rules that prevents actual racing .

Whom ever came up with that penalty, should be dunked into the St. Lawrence
and let the 'gators have at 'em. I hope this gets reversed. Vettel and ferrari shoud be allowed a hearing on this. But Vettel really did win this race. Last edited by yellowperil; 06-09-2019 at 12:12 PM.. |

I was surprised he kept it out of the wall. No way a penalty should be imposed on him.
If Ham were a true racer he would have gone to the inside seeing as Vet was headed to the wall. Instead he tried to stick to the line and it disappeared on him.

Wow - the stewards really screwed that one up. With al the replays available and a countersteering Vettel they still dinged him? I’m no Vettel fan but I was happy to see him almost not show up on the podium. Very human... I could sympathize... I’m almost sorry he relented. Let the FIA penalize you -
The season is over anyway... Watch them penalize him now for swapping position boards or showing up late or some other BS. Today was F1 snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. |

Small people making history the only way they can.......getting it wrong!!!!!
At some point, officials should contemplate "for the good of the sport".

I thought the Vettel penalty was bs. What I did love about the podium was the joy from the Mercedes person who accepted the constructors trophy. You could tell she appreciated the moment.

They should have given Hambone the position and then let them race to the end. Result would have been the same but it sure would have tasted different. They took away any impetus for Hamilton to pass.
