I have a wife, four daughters and I am the only male in the staff at work.
I have no opinions.

On a related note: My son started college this year (engineering) and I went back to school for nursing. I am currently in microbiology and chemistry classes and there is 1 male in each class. My son says his classes(all upper sciences, maths, and engineering courses, no humanities) are 2:1 girls to boys in all his classes.
I am curious if this is the norm at most schools. We are at 2 different schools and are seeing this. I wonder where the males are and what they are studying. I would have thought there would be more balance in these classes.

At least some of the men are apparently at home in their parent's basement watching videos about how the women in their life have screwed them over.

I worked in the same field for 37 years and never met or saw a female co-worker or supervisor.
Electrical engineer / electronics. Big companies / small companies. I'll bet it never happens.

Many men are passing on a degree that is no longer a differentiator because everyone has one. (and the associated college debt) and learning trades instead. So again....we see more examples in this thread; Hospital 80% women, colleges women outnumber men 2:1. The last time you had your teeth cleaned was the Dental hygienist male or female? I can go on and on but women are NOT being oppressed in 2019. The only examples I ever get will be broad un-quantifiable ideas such as: "We've never had a female president so that means were oppressing women" or "there are fewer female CEO's of fortune 500 companies because of oppression" but the reality is there are no as in ZERO laws in place holding women back. There are fewer female CEO's for the same reason there are fewer male nurses or the elusive male dental hygienist. They simply choose different career paths and this helps explain the myth of the gender pay gap. The social gender disparities that once existed have long been done away with by first wave feminism, 2nd and 3rd wave feminism is an extreme view that is actually pushing for superiority and not equality, because the bar of equality has been met for quite some time. This is why most women of 2019 do not identify as feminists.

So many good answers here. I would like to add a less popular opinion.
But, to be brutally honest, amongst many women, one of the main reasons is their inability to see themselves as people in powerful positions. Sometimes, women themselves stereotype themselves and become their own obstacle. For example: 1. Afraid to be seen as a "Ice Queen" to be seen as emotionless. They paint successful women as unsympathetic power-mongers. Last edited by Giranaeama; 06-17-2019 at 05:27 AM.. |

Most places where I have worked in recent years, much of the mid-level personnel of both sexes were pretty good. In senior management, many men were incompetent...but almost every woman was. The organizations worked so hard to promote women that they were given opportunities ahead of men with higher qualities and promoted without requisite skills/abilities. They were able to avoid the tough, lower-level assignments that men had to take and be successful at to move up. This did them a disservice and set them up for failure. It was especially bad in one organization where the top 20-25 people in management were all women. They didn't even consider men for the senior positions (and the most skilled simply left/went elsewhere)...so I guess it works both ways.

I'm a software engineer, and I have perfectly competent female colleagues.
Women can write code......right after they get me my dinner. I kid, I kid.....

And therein lies the question. What are you defining as success? Secular society tells women to pursue a career, but studies have shown that career women are significantly less happy in these roles as compared to women who chose traditional roles of raising children. One indicator is the number of women who are abusing prescribed medications and daily alcohol consumption along with rising suicide rates among females. I understand there are always exceptions to this rule, but the exceptions don't diminish the majority of women who fall in line with this narrative. Society can attempt to dictate but the female brain is wired in a specific way. In the same way that a man is wired to "want" to please and take care of a female and is truly content in that role (with the right woman) a woman is only happy when she is with a man who assumes the male role which will allow her to naturally follow his lead.

They should be. Obviously, everyone has their own gifts, and some men and women have the same ones, and many have different ones. There is no reason not to play to the strengths of each person.
