To be fair, Alonso was speaking of the Honda motor in the back of his McLaren F1 car, which was down on power from other teams and tended to blow up before going a full race distance.

What a colossal mess. Late to the game, unprepared, poor asset management and allocation of resources. And as if that wasn't bad enough, really bad decision making along the way. I wonder when Mansour Ojjeh and the Bahrainis are going to throw in the towel on Zak Brown or put him on the commercial side and install someone above him to actual run the race team.

OK time to pick your favorites. Who are you pulling for?
I'd like to see a second generation guy drink the milk. Graham or Marco. Sooner or later Marco has to be in the right place at the right time. Other than those 2, I always want a guy who hasn't won before and there are a lot of those this year. What you say???

How ironic then, that the Honda in the back of his Indycar blew up, roughly 20 laps from the end, on a day when he'd led the race at times and was a possibility for the win.

It would be cool to see Marco win on the 50th anniversary of his grandfathers victory but the chances of that are about 32 to 1.

I would love to see Helio get #4 and announce his retirement from the top of the fence. After that, Rahal, TK, Newgarden, and maybe Herta.
I doubt that Uber-boy will get one but the family does show well at Indy.

Never been to Indy but I went to the inaugural running of Indycar in Birmingham. I can still smell the fuel, hear the sound of those motors winding up, and remember the adrenaline as I watched. This one could be interesting.
Drivers, start your engines.

I like Marco, I think he is a really cool guy, I also know the only reason he is in a car is because of his last name.
The 500 just turned into a 20 lap sprint race.

My power went out at the conclusion of lap 198. I was happy to see Rossi in the lead, was less happy to see that he didn’t finish that way. The Penske car clearly had legs on everyone else and with that last caution, fuel was no longer a concern and that was all she wrote.
I saw a replay of the last lap and I’ve got to say I’ve never seen more weaving at Indy than I saw there. |

^Pagenaud was weaving to take away Rossi’s preferred passing lane and to break the draft. It was proactively brilliant.

I know why he did it, I’ve just never seen it done that aggressively. Some sanctioning bodies allow you one move, or two, but nothing like that.

"If it weren't for his last name, the only ride he could get would be Uber" - P.T.
Marco is good enough to race but not elite enough to win. Pagenaud needs to send Bordeaux a very large bottle of something special. If Seabass had given Rahal a little room there wouldn't have been a red flag and Pagenaud wouldn't have had the fuel to make it to the podium no less a win. As has been said a million times, the track picks the winner.

And anyone who didn't think that was a hell of a race, excluding the 18 minute red flag, doesn't know much or appreciate the Indy 500.
My gal Pippa was up to 14th and got 17th I believe. Connor Daly told the Indianapolis Star that he needed 4th place to come out in the black financially. Seems rather steep to me. I hope Mann made enough to come back. I mean this is basically all she does at this point. I like to see women in the race. |
