Look, Danica is obviously not even Sato, but she has an indy pole and a series win. Porsche people love Pat Dempsey, and no doubts he is a fine person, but his palmares?
Don’t begrudge Danica her looks. Everyone at the pointy end has to use whatever the good lord gave em. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Paul Tracy has some awesome comments, Townsend can be kinda douchey sometimes. Very unlike his dad and brother

His dad and brother? I don't believe he is from THAT Bell family.

Tom Sneva was the best Indy announcer. He would say things like 'they ought to take him off the track before he hurts the car let alone himself'.

Danica Patrick was a good Indy 500 driver. She raced in eight Indy 500s with six top 10 finishes including a podium. Her DNF in 2008 was caused when she was wrecked out in the pits by Ryan Briscoe and then wanted to fight him in Gasoline Alley. Last year, having qualified seventh, she wrecked out in her first Indy car race experience in seven years finishing 30th.
She qualified top-ten 6 times including once on the front row. Her best races as a driver in non-competitive cars were 2010 and 2011 where she qualified 23rd and 25th bringing her car to 6th and 7th, respectively. She should have stayed in the Indy series and become an oval specialist like Ed Carpenter. The lure of NASCAR money was too tempting and the ol' boys club too closed. Plus, she wasn't very good in NASCAR racing. She's an open wheel oval specialist. Anyway, I hope I've rehabilitated Ms. Patrick enough that she'll stop by some evening and drive my car. Yes, I am a pig. |

Concerning the McLaren disaster, I wonder how many pompous F1 people choked on their Martini olive when they realized they aren't able to just show up and make Indy teams and drivers look 2nd rate. Humble pie is best served cold even if you wash it down with Dom Pérignon.

That team was McLaren in name only. When you rent cars from a bottom feeding team, you get what you pay for. I will say that the oversight of the project by McLaren personnel was pretty pathetic, which I guess is why the guy tasked with that by McLaren got fired immediately afterwards.

Full disclosure:I am a little biased (no great revelation).
I think that McLaren thought they could take what the other teams started and then use their "superior skills" to make it a top flight car and Alonso was a superior driver and could make it work. Wakey wakey. Indy is not a walk in the park. While I'm at it, I think it was a farce that Alonso was 2017 Rookie of the Year. Call a cop, Ed Jones was robbed!

This is just more evidence of how bad the situation at Mclaren is.

Maybe publicly but privately I think they cut back on the trash talk during their cocktail parties.

Wow!
We have a tradition that anything posted in green is sarcasm and the rest was just in good fun. Also, although we may disagree we can still do it agreeably. I didn't assail you personally. Be the mature one and just respond or ignore me if you took it personally. (and apology sent via PM) Edit: Now that I think about it, talking about typical internet: calling me out for a school yard fight behind the dumpster. Really? "Lighten up Francis." (hopefully you know the quote). Best wishes to you. I promise not to respond to your posts again.

It was indeed a spectacular cluster, and not a good look when you are trying to keep your star driver. If Alonso wants to win Indy, he needs to get Penske or Ganassi to manage the car. |

Or Andretti. As a rule they do better there than most tracks.

Interesting commentary today about the damoer setup for Fred on Sunday. The car was no longer undrivably twitchy but it was slow stable. I think Michael gets him a ride next year

IIRC, that is exactly who they got two years ago. But then McLaren kicked Honda to the curb, and Andretti wasn't in a position to help McLaren without offending Honda.

Alonso had also made a comment that the Honda lump was akin to a GP2 motor which could not have gone over well.
