Great coverage, I taped and watched the entirety but fast-forwarded through a portion. Good racing, I predicted early on that something would happen to the #7 car in the last hour that would cause a lead-change.
I'm not saying it was a conspiracy, but I'm not saying I'm clairvoyant either The announcers on day shift were pretty good and it didn't bother me all that much that we couldn't hear the interviews or radio broadcasts, but who's idea was it to hire Abe Simpson to cover the night shift? Absolutely the worst commentator I have ever heard, bar none. Howard Cosell would have been a better choice, and he's dead. After 10 minutes of listening to him explain something he knew absolutely nothing about (H2) I hit mute and kept it on most of the time until sun came up. It was obvious he didn't give a crap about the race going on and was content just having a conversation. The only time he seemed to look up was when a car pulled into the pits. At one time he commented that the race leaders were pitting frequently, not realizing they were regularly scheduled stops. He said something about how time flies when you're having fun. No, Time flies when you are not paying attention. Maybe if he coughed up that phlegm ball and cleared his throat he wouldn't be so obnoxious. [/rant]

Do they really think people will want to go buy a prius just because a Toyota hybrid won the race? Ok sure, there are people dumb enough to think that way, but hopefully they are few and far between. |

It was just weird that in a 24 hour race they never figured out how to adjust the volume of the interviewers mic, or the volume of the radios for the TV audience. The background sound of the cars was for sure plenty loud. Maybe next year they will get a sound engineer that has graduated from junior high school and has some experience.
I sure loved my DVR for that race. I see another interview that is a lip reading exercise, and fast forward. And endless coverage of the LMP1 Toyotas. Yea, they are overall winners, that was a lock. Like showing the Mercedes the entire race in F1, no action, no competition. So me the racing. It sucked the the 911 had a broken exhaust and lost the championship because of it. But that is racing.

What crap. On one hand, rules are rules. But in a place like LeMans, where a lap is 8 miles long, having a fuel tank 1/10 of a liter too large is not going to do much for you, performance-wise. If anything, it'll just saddle you with more weight than necessary. It's certainly not enough to get you an extra lap between pitstops.

Did anyone else hate that the coverage on Motor Trend went to the two analysts with their jibbah jabbah for 5-10 minutes about every two hours?
I vaguely remember the same thing last year. 90% of their forced dialogue was a waste of time for true race fans. Please tell me where to write so I can tell them how uninspiring that was. They could've at least done a 50/50 split screen. Ugh.

What is the BS penalty about not spinning your tires when you leave the pits? Is this the 24 Hours of LeMans or a high school prom? GMAFB!

I have to admit, to be 3.3 ounces, OUNCES over the limit is pretty crazy limit. It must me had to measure that precisely. Assuming they built the car fuel system, and knew it was 0.10 liters over, how would you adjust that?
Refueling too fast, yep, bingo that is a real issue. An extra 3 oz is insignificant over a 24 hour race.

They got caught cheating two ways. I can't help but wonder how many other ways they cheated and didn't get caught. |

The fueling time is flat out cheating, and blatant. 3.3 oz of extra fuel has to be hard to measure in real world conditions. How would they go about reducing the capacity of a tank by 0.10 liters? I am sure it can be done, but I have to admit, it is insignificant. Rules are rules, and if that was the only violation, maybe a fine. But the refueling too fast, that is blatant, and they flat knew it.

Actually, the bits with Kristensen were OK. He at least gives some insight into the minds/experiences of the drivers and teams. The other dude...was a total distraction with his oh-so-funky shirts...which he changed every 2 hours That was just distracting.

I can't decide to post on this thread or the official thread with the proper spelling.
I'm surprised there's not a huge debate on the #88 Porsche crashing into the Corvette! I'm guessing the amateur Porsche driver was looking two turns ahead and didn't notice the Corvette 6" off his left headlight.

It was nice that they went 25.5 hours straight BUT FFS, I really don't know why they cut away from the podium ceremony. Literally had 30 minutes left to complete that and they just cut away after all that time. And for what? So we could see a taped edition of Truck U?????
Still better than trying to find it with channel changes and switching to internet but seriously finish the job...

Just like F1 coverage. The interviews are just cut off to go to a basketball game from 30 years ago. WTF.

The current F1 announcers, the seemingly dozens of them, make the show more about themselves than the on track action and what’s happening behind the scenes.
Just give me the play-by-play action and the stories we miss. Don’t give me your opinions. I didn’t care about them when you were a backmarker driver, I don’t consider them important now. |
