You may dislike our politics, high tax, crime, and all of the above. Its 79 today, clear and blue sky, slight breeze, no bugs, and I am going out for a 30 mile ride before I come home and slave away to cook dinner for those three people living in my house.

I think you do get use to the heat and humidity. Just look at those who live in the tropics. We were in Hong King in the dead middle of summer two year ago. My kids and me included were melting and did not want to move. It was freaking horrible. We were riding in this tram that's been around over 100 years built by the British. No AC, standing room and the seats are small, unlike our N American bus seats. I notice a woman with a full on office suit buttoned up to her chin in an over coat and a brief case standing in front of us fully composed and comfortable. My wife and I wanted to tear our skin off even though we had only shorts and tee shirt on. I told my wife that this woman has a full face of make up and she looked great. She had to feel the heat but I can only think that sheisn't too comfortable neither.

It reached 110.8 in my work area today - that is a temp that even when motionless, I am dumping so much sweat that it is as if someone is standing above me with a garden hose running on my head. Not exactly pleasant.
What gets me about this area is how it does not cool off at nights, for months on end. Last night is was 86 at about 12:30am and was still 83 at close to 3:00 am (with sickening humidity to go along with it) - ass suck conditions. |
AZ hot as it has been, I saw this clown walking around and was wearing a mask :eek:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1627438866.jpg

Thanks BAz. The air has been sweet with gentle breezes. Can't ask for better.
|
Heat index of 116 here yesterday.
Not pleasant. We had one of those roof destroying hail storms last week, I got spared this time and won't be getting my 4th roof in 16 years but the southern part of the community got absolutely pummeled. I feel bad for the roofers who have to work in this. |
Hoodies keep the sun off you. Roofers wear them here.
You do get used to humidity, definitely. Also, if you move from humid to dry, you tolerate heat very well |
43 deg F 82% humidity.
Finally getting our April/May moisture. Hope it knocks down the wildfires in the northern part of the province. |

We had a hail storm last year. Lot of replacements even though the only damage was dents. My neighbor behind me had theirs replaced and said their homeowner's insurance required it to be done. Just last week the house at the end of my side street right on the Intracoastal had hers done. Like Tob said though - these roofers are used to working in the heat and humidity. Most of them in this area are Hispanics and their workmanship and work ethic are second to none! |
I watched some of this lightning last night - pretty good show!

This morning the low temp for the day 80º and 90% humidity.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687353763.jpg My experience has been that the max dew point temp where I think it's "nice" outside is 68º but much better is 62º. Our dew point for the past week and the foreseeable future is 75-80º. |
10 day forecast looks good for us. But mid July through early Oct will definitely heat up substantially. Escondido is ~ 10 miles inland so we see +15F or more compared to the coastal communities in Summer. Trade off for not having to deal with seasonal “June gloom” which actually lasts a couple months overcast closer to the coast.

Those are pretty great temps for being 10 miles inland! Then again, 10 miles isn’t very far. When you get 30-40 miles in, especially if in a valley, is when the temps go up in SoCal.

A roaster today.
Currently 94 F and 54% humidity - and no breeze! :( |
Not even 10am and already 86 w/74% humidity.....

85 degrees
67% humidity Went out and got a lot done this morning. Little storm coming this way. After it passes it's the second shift..... |
at 11AM, 100 with 19% humidity; that's humid for Scottsdale
|
Overall, I'd say a cooler than usual summer here in the Willamette Valley. At least so far...
|
I was looking out the courthouse window around 11am this morning and saw some tourists making rookie mistakes for our current heat. Dad and at least one of the kids walking in some baking heat w lots of humidity wearing jeans. One kid was already suffering. Bet that's going to be a great vacation memory.

Since moving to FL 6-7 years ago, I have come to embrace the heat :) I hated the heat up north and needed an air conditioner and a fan on me at anything over 70 degrees. Here, our thermo is set at 80 and it feels cool. Yesterday, I think it was 95 and 90-100% RH (not unusual for this time of year) and I spent 6 hours in my non-airconditioned garage working on bikes and listening to the IMSA race. Sweat? Yes, lots of it. I was reading a medical report not long ago on the many benefits of sauna and the report indicated that the exact same benefits are attained by living in the desert or south FL and being outside in the heat for hours at a time. Nice cold shower afterwards and felt fantastic. Doing the same today - just got back from a 10-mile bike ride :D

I also have quite a few fans in different places, inside and around the garage, that I like to use. Having air movement really makes a huge difference, for me! |
Got my utilities bill today.
$216.28 out the door. Electric usage down from same month last year: 1,045 from 1,428 kWh Bill includes water, electric, sewer, garbage pickup, taxes, yada yada.... Last months was $182.62. Not too shabby...... |
Yesterday going home at end of day from office:

We're looking at mid 90s temps for the next 7+ days here. So far, though, it hasn't been anything out of the orginary.
|
^^^ Same here....it is the middle of July.
|
It is July, it is called summer. It is supposed to be hot.
We received 3.78 inches of rain last night, and 8.447 so far this month, and it is just the 11th. Way more than normal. everything is GREEN and growing. The humidity is insane with all that rain. Heat index is very high. But hey, it is green and pretty outside. I really need to mow the yard, but it needs to dry up a lot first. It is July in Oklahoma. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689115179.jpg |

We're about half way in between Houston and Austin, so hotter and less humid than Houston, but cooler and more humid than Austin. My thermometer says it's 99º. But the Internet for the personal weather station closest to me shows the following.

Took this a few minutes ago. Wife just now turned on the A/C, first time in a long time. We're about 7 miles from the ocean so there should be a sea breeze later on.SmileWavy |
