I took off for W Va today on the Duc but faded after 100 miles. I had to get out of the heat, then turn around. Trip delayed.

Thermometer in my pool said the water was 104 degrees this afternoon. That was just the top and sides though. Once the water was mixed with the cooler zones it was only 95.

Meh, triple digits again this week.

Summer weather here is why I worked in air conditioned restaurants going to college.

It is mid 90s and very humid today and the thunderstorms are building. We are likely to get a thunderstorm shortly. Afternoon thunderstorms in the summer are pretty common. Heat and humidity is pretty much the ingredients for a good thunderstorm. Just a thunderstorm, no rotation.

That will cool off things for today.

Finally, some good pool weather...I love being out in the sun, relaxing in the pool because it doesn't happen very often (usually too busy).

I find that a thunderstorm will cool things off for anywhere from 10 mins up to 2-3 hours if it's strong enough. Then you get the heat back, but with an added dose of humidity that makes it feel 10x worse than it did before the storm cooled things off.

The thunderstorm on the south merged with one on the north just west of us. The south t-storm pushed the other storm to miss us and we got a whopping 0.01 inch of rain. The temp went from 95 to 78 in minutes. It is always just mind boggling how much energy is involved with just a little thunderstorm. How my gazillion BTUs would it take to cool an entire area in minutes?

The bad news is the humidity is 96% right now. 74 degrees and a heat index of 78 and sweating only make you wet, not cooler.

Yep, when I used to have a weather station, it always amazed me when temps would drop by 15º-20º+ in minutes.

Never heard of this so I looked it up - interesting!

This is what I love about this place - I learn things all the time!

Right now I only have the Weather Underground website with my zip code punched in for 10 day forecast - and they do a pretty good job - plus their radar image - and my own digital monitor with 3 remotes. One outside the front door, a second one in the attic, and the third in my garage.

The reason I have them in the garage and attic is both have new roof coverings and I'm curious how those are affecting the temps inside.

You may dislike our politics, high tax, crime, and all of the above. Its 79 today, clear and blue sky, slight breeze, no bugs, and I am going out for a 30 mile ride before I come home and slave away to cook dinner for those three people living in my house.
