That is just nasty. I think we had two days last year that hit 95 or 96 in Akron.
Mind you we get sun about one day in three. It's gotta be Lake Erie that does it.

Get off my lawn!

We went to Savannah, GA in August. One day the heat index was 135! It was like a steam bath.
Just walking in the shaded parking garage from the hotel lobby to my 911 got me sweaty. We went to eat at a really cool old house that is a restaurant called The Olde Pink House. Amazing fact is the mansion predates the formation of the United States. It faces Reynolds Square. It was built in the British colony of Georgia in the late 1700's by merchant, statesman, and loyalist James Habersham. It blows my mind that the southern belles wore multiple layers of clothes and survived 135 heat index as just another day with no electricity at all, so not even a fan.

The A/C stopped working in my work truck today too. Probably just Freon, which I have on hand.
I have the kind with the leak stopper so hopefully it will do the trick. Survival Mode - engaged!

You work in the heat (landscaping type business), correct? I do too (in unairconditioned hangers - aka fuukin convection ovens!
), and either of those gives one a whole new perspective on burn-ass (any type of outdoors work in hot climates). The only people here that I know who like to say, "you're exaggerating, it's not that hot, the weather in TexASS is awesome, I love it here", are those that work in a/c and are typically only outside as long as it takes them to walk to and from their cars. At least I can credit my decades living in this hellhole with making me an expert on home and car a/c building and maintenance!

![]() So our humidity has been lower this week. Right now it's only 60% with temp at 80. I know it won't last - but wow - so much nicer for working outside!

Im somewhat relieved to hear you guy talking about this southern heat like that.
I've been in the fl panhandle for two years now and am just hiding out in the AC most afternoons these days. And wondering if I will ever adapt to the temps and humidity around here. First summer here I was digging in fence posts and hanging panels on them. And was melting in the process. I end d up getting so dehydrated that I couldn't recover even over night. My brother suggested Gator Aid, which replenished something that I had sweated out and helped me to get feeling better, and able to continue working. Now I don't try doing too much in the afternoons. Have to get started earlier in the day and knock off during the hot times. Relieved cause I was beginning to think it was just part of getting older. Whew, thanks guys. Cheers Richard |

Richard, I lose 3-4 pounds of water weight each day, even though I drink as much water and Gatoraid as I seemingly can (not enough, obviously) - not pleasant!

Yep I can totally believe that R T. I've never sweated so much and have lived my whole life in the tropics. Sweating out a tee shirt is one thing but soaking your shorts and underwear is new to me.
Man bridge, I love those high mountain passes in Colo in the spring and summer, don't think I'd like it there so much in the winters. Cheers Richard |
