Sounds a bit like they are making rather big assumptions being made by those not there.
I would expect a bit more evidence to make such a conclusion.

For all we know the pilots were very very confused, cognitive problems due to some kind of medical problem or other.. Maybe the darn cockpit was full of smoke from some kind of fire and they didn't have a clue where they were and just did a landing by the book based on altitude and attitude... and just put the gear out not knowing if at all they were over water or land.

lots and lots of possible "what if" scenario's possible so definitively picking is problematic if you ask me..
Convenient perhaps for the airline to scape goat the pilots at this point.

Svan - agree. Pretty big leap (like grand canyon) from debris witness marks to a determination of pilot's intent.

isn't that one of those former diesel brothers? one that built them "coal" trucks and got in trouble for illegally converting smog vehicles and what not?

how is a guy like that going to turn aviation parts , into money, knowing that all of that is strictly regulated and he's not at all familiar with any of it?

da fuq?

he managed to buy a black hawk?

there is way to much easy money in the world and somehow it tends to flow to all kinds of weirdos who don't really have to work hard to get it

That guy is way in over his head. When you buy an aircraft you're buying the logbooks, without complete and up to date logbooks the aircraft is worthless (unless you want to use them as movie props). It could take weeks for someone to go through all of those parts and components and see what is new, timed out or junk. The seller skillfully never mentioned anything about documentation. There may be a lot of new parts in there but I'd want to see the paperwork.

Not many people are flying Pumas anymore. He might have luck offloading that stuff to some third world country. He's way underestimating what it's going to take to get that Dauphin in the air.

That's what I was thinking, but he already bought a Blackhawk and got that one flying.
So I would expect he is also aware of the logbooks and how those are important from that project.

But yeah, I agree its not like flipping car parts is it

All of that and more.

Let us return to the soothing sounds of day DLQ's in nice seas:

Or this sea state, which I have also landed in, same class of ship:

That shown, FA-18C's job remains.

Sniffing salty air , getting a bit of spray and saying "HHHHAAARRRR this is the life me ol mateeeey, shivver me timbers!!" to anybody around..
But that 2nd video is tooooooo much of a good thing

This gives some perspective on the change in the visual picture landing during pitching deck. REally hard to not chase the deck - gotta trust the LSO (<---not one of those one eyed blind pig lovers, but really glad to have some great ones...)

What did you fly with ? USN or USMC
which squadrons? dets and cruises?

I love that video documentary, seen it before, I love the background people the sailors watching launches and landings and what they do.
Got Heaters book, which also shows some of the background of carrier life..

In any case, I doubt the jection at that point did damage to the airframe that hadn't already been done..
Does the cockpit get fried by the rocket motor?? or is it repairable after that?

I used to instruct maintenance at WAATS. This was back in the AH-1F Cobra days.

Man, that is scary. Hard to question whether he should have stayed with the aircraft. Unknown what caused the abrupt nose pitch forward and crunched the nose gear, or why the engines are still at high RPM. When ShLt hits the fan, figuring out what is happening is not always instantly obvious. If there was an indication of fire, or smoke and flames, you get out. Hard to argue there is a worse way to go other than dipped in honey and staked to a fire ant hole. Also, if there was a sense the aircraft was going to roll over, you gotta get out, or get trapped and see above...Very lucky that he was still inside a safe eject envelope. Looks like maybe a swing and a half before impact, would be fortunate to have minor injuries. Hard to watch these happen. Never a huge fan of fighter aircraft taking off and landing vertically. Is it cool? Absolutely, but the thrust to do this and to control it puts incredible stresses on components. And if something goes, it is never uneventful. Of the people I know that have ejected from aircraft, I count 4 from Tomcats, 2 from A-7s, 4 from FA-18s and a friend in Harriers laps me in numbers he is aware of - successful, or not.
