He donated that 707 to the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society in 2017. The group is based at Shellharbour Airport in Wollongong, Australia. The special long range model of a 707 was built for Qantas originally so it has returned home I guess.

Yikes!

Plane has a lot of history, Sinatra once owned it

https://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/celebrity/high-flyer-travolta-to-jet-into-australia-but-pricey-gift-grounded-20190911-p52q3h.html

"Travolta's 707 was originally designed to carry 140 passengers and was among Qantas' hardest working aircraft during its years of service, but ended up becoming a luxury private jet for 25 people, complete with bedroom and en-suite, a full kitchen, dining and lounge areas.

Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, was among its other celebrity owners before Travolta got his hands on the aircraft.

Travolta struck a deal with Qantas which continued to maintain the 707 while he owned it in return for Travolta becoming the airline's celebrity ambassador, a role the actor embraced with gusto."

Was at the Reno Air Races when he did a pass over show center. At least that is what the announcer claimed. Regardless, it was cool to see the Quantas pass by so low.

I launched a YouTube channel focused on the squadrons assigned to the first four US Marine commanded Escort Carriers:

USS Block Island,
USS Gilbert Islands,
USS Cape Gloucester,
USS Vella Gulf.

I have some 40+ color films shorts from the 1945 time frame showing carrier qual, weapon training, and then deployment action. There are many more to follow (and a website with more background detail).

Please check it out if you get a chance:

The first US attack heli AH-1 Cobra had the engine/transmission/rotors out of the proven Huey. (Initially at least?)
That was wild.

Sorry to hear about the loss of 9 service members in the crash of the two Blackhawks on Wednesday night at Fort Campbell.
It is a hard job.

Thank you! I was inspired to do this as my Father in Law was one of the TBM Avenger pilots in VMTB-143. I have access to all of his WW2 memorabilia. Fascinating bit of history ...

I have over 150 more films to post after they are scanned.

Subscribed to your channel. Those are freaking off the hook!!!

I’ve only just started but man, that’s amazing to see some actual footage of launches and captures. In addition to all the other cool stuff.

Thanks again for posting all of those.

Me, keeping the idea alive while working(when free time allows) on the VE to get her back in the air.

Ok, on that note…..
For those that are so fortunate to have a hangar, either rental of own. Does this happen to you as well?

I have decided to name the hanger with a wooden sign. At least until I’m told to remove it. I am going to name the hanger, “The Cheese Wrapper”.

I have determined that the sound of the hanger door rolling open, is more effective that when you are in the kitchen at your home and you open one of those Kraft crappy plastic cheese wrappers of fake cheese, and you have dogs. One little crinkle and “BAM”, every dog instantaneously materializes out of thin air, behind you.

So this last Saturday, I finally make it up to the airport to spend some quality time working on N23RR. Nobody is around that I can see….. I roll the doors open and within 5 minutes, three guys all show up and want to talk about “misc schtuff”, they finally leave an hour and a half later, then more start trickling in. Three hours later, I have gotten absolutely nothing accomplished and I don’t see anything changing for the afternoon. Mrs Bugs even arrived to see how things were going and tried rescuing me from endless conversation. I said very little, it was all the other older guys doin all the talking. Being polite, I was the good listener….
I eventually gave up trying to get anything done, and just went home. I was able to sweep all the leaves and detritus up that blew in since November. I take that as a small victory. I enjoy the community, but it does have its pitfalls when trying to get stuff done.
I’ll just plan on going up during my normal work shift from 1630-0300 on my days off.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Bugs
