That was taken over Lincoln. With Beale a few miles North, we get a chance to see some cool sights from time to time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cal Fire’s S-2T tanker, used in a fire retardant run a few miles from our home. A co-worker took this from his in-law’s home where the fire was working itself. ![]() They were also hammered it with the DC-10 based out of the McClellen air field later in the afternoon. Here is a file photo of that bird. ![]() This fire was started by a recently relocated family from the bay-area who thought it a good idea to use a turkey deep fryeroin their property. All here and a lot of old Navy COD's still in the mix.
https://grummantracker.com/ There is A LOT on the website, including Cal Fire. I actually have a flight in the back of an S2. My Mom got sick while I was on Work-ups for my second cruise and they flew me over to the Connie and I got a seat on the COD back to North Island. An AOCS Classmate of mine was the pilot. It was piston powered...I bet the turbine version is a hoot. ![]() It was as noisy as a divorce lawyer but it was just a great aircraft. Thanks for the memory...I had not thought of that day in a long time.

Kewl; some Trackers on-deck?
![]() The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CVS-12) underway in the Pacific Ocean, circa in July 1969. Hornet, with assigned Carrier Anti-Submarine Air Group 59 (CVSG-59), was deployed to the Pacific Ocean as the recovery ship for the Apollo 11 Moon-landing mission from 27 June to 1 August 1969. The Apollo 11 crew was recovered on 24 July 1969. Note the shelter for the Apollo capsule on the flight deck.

What are you circling in red? Your house and hanger? If so, that fire is way too close for comfort. Hope they get that contained. Looks like a beautiful place to live and to be so close to the airport...
I have always loved the Grumman Tracker. Cool they are using OV-10 Broncos too. Couple of very cool airplanes.

Yeah, that was a pic I sent time friends who knew we lived up here. I thought I attached the clean image. ![]() Yeah, way too close. Per my circle of influence, I am being told a digger pine fell onto power lines and began arcing due to landing on a guys classic car. Then it took off up the hill. This is all speculation and nothing official has been announced. The big box hangars with the red painted roofs from retardant, were burned. Unknown on the severity though. Had an ember hit the ones I am in, the outcome would have been devastating. Built in the forties with old dry wood covered in corrugated sheet steel, “POOF” gone. Even worse, it would have been a direct fuse line to the homes on the north side of the airport, including us. I salute all of the ground and air crews for a fantastic job. And a big thank you to all of you that did this type of work in years past. Bugs

A pair of Iraqi MiG 17s
Here are a few aircraft we stumbled across 7/4/2003 at Baghdad International Airport.
The propeller driven aircraft is an Antonov An2 transport/utility plane designed in the late 1940s. The two jets are MiG 17s, designed in the early 1950 based off the MiG 15 from Korean War fame. Somewhere I have photos of MiG 25s that the Iraqis buried in the sand, thinking after the initial “Shock and Awe” they would dig them up and later engage the Allied air forces. These planes weren’t destroyed as a part of the combat phase but aircraft that were scrapped earlier and dragged to the outskirts of the airport.
