Interesting is the inverted Daimler-Benz engine design. With the 13mm guns on top of the cowling and 30mm cannons in the wing leading edge and one through the engine crankshaft.

Bf-109 at Duxford Air Museum in England recovered from the Battle of Britain.

Another interesting fact is the Bf-109s used for the 1969 filming of the Battle of Britain had Merlin engines in their upright configuration instead of the DB engines.

And the collector of said aircraft in Texas has sold them for a remake of the movie.

I'd be surprised if a 'Battle of Britain' remake is undertaken (the link is four years old). Please don't. I hope the Buchon's are made flyable, though.

'Tora! Tora! Tora!' was a pretty good movie, though it played a bit like a documentary. The movie 'Pearl Harbor' was terrible. Leave well enough alone.

Since the dominance of the aircraft vs battleship, you have to ask why the Germans didn't sink the British fleet this way, prior to The Battle of Britain?

Montemayor has a channel covering the major Pacific carrier battles.

We also got a base tour as cub scouts one year.
Pretty darn cook stuff for a cub scout.

Downside is - you had better be 5'-10" & 150#'s or shorter & lighter - a very cramped cockpit.

Cheers

Didn't know you were a suburban philly guy.
Was working the ambulance board the day that poor kid ejected himself from the unsecured cockpit.
Also the day that the Tomcat compressor stalled and augered.
The surrounding neighborhood is a superfund site from the AAAF pollution.

I was there, perhaps a hundred yards away. I believe it was a A6 Intruder? I seem to remember shards of the canopy coming down around us, and seeing the seat coming down. I went to elementary school 4-5th grade in Wrightstown. We moved to the area in 1976 and back to the mid-west in 80.

Still has a flying B-17 and B-25. Plus a remaining collection outside.

I would ad new aerial combat scenes, cgi has really opened up the possibilities, but leave the rest of the movie as is. You’re not going to get better actors. The score is excellent. the script is excellent.

Think flying tigers could stand to be remade. Love John Wayne. But the movie is pretty hokey. And has almost nothing to do with the real story.

One of my heroes from years ago. He was a good entertainer as well as a pretty decent pilot.

Thanks for posting that. This explains a lot of the Midway battle way better than several documentaries or movies I have seen. I never realized how many aircraft, pilots and crew the Americans lost in that battle.
