Looks like I have a buyer for my Debonair. I thought I had it sold a couple of months ago. I took it off the market and it took a while to get a prebuy at the buyers prefered shop. I told him of a few things that the plane needed, new exhaust on one side and It had a cylinder on one side that had been low the last couple of years. I informed him of these issues and said if they could find anything that I hadn’t informed him of, that I would fix it.

After his pre buy he wanted the price adjusted to replace the exhaust and cylinder, I felt that it was disclosed and the price reflected that needing done, so the deal fell through.

So I had my mechanic go ahead and replace the exhaust, and while he was there replace the cylinder, the cylinder still was passing, but it was low and it didn’t cost much to have it removed since the exhaust was already off.

I upped my price to reflect this cost and a new buyer is paying my full price, it came out of prebuy yesterday with only some suggestions on replacing a few bushings that we’re still in spec, but showing some wear.

I’m going to miss the old plane.

After I watched the Kelley Johnson video one showed up in the lower left corner outlining his career at Lockheed. It touched on his contributions to the Electra, P38, Constellation, P80 and T33,XP90, 104,U2 and of course the Oxcart and Blackbird.

10,000 feet in an Ultralight!


edit: Per YT comments in the above, apparently people were hang-gliding well above that.
Not sure how that is done w/o oxygen and special equipment.

generally ok without extra o2 up to 14000 feet.. (highest ski resorts in europ is around 13000 feet)..
I'm sure there is some margin out to 15 maybe 16000 feet, but I doubt you want to go much higher then that without a bottle.

Some people can take it, but it depends a lot on physical condition, being used to the altitude or not..
They recommend altitude training exercise at simulated 10000 feet for 5-6 weeks, to prepare the body for Everest base camp at 17500 feet

10K feet in an ultralight. Ok so the engine made it. BUT. Is he in controlled airspace? I don't see a transponder in the instrument panel so he could be in violation of airspace rules without a transponder. And no radio comms as he approached the airport?
