Location: Placerville, CA.... You know, the only place on Highway 50 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe the you find signal lights. Above the fog most of the time and I can see the stars of the Milky Way 8 out of 10 nights. Kinda cool.....

 Seconds before a major fuel leak presented itself as I was moving it over to where the C-150 heavy was parked. Get to change out “ALL” fuel lines and filters. Thanks for posting, that was great - I've always wanted to know more about the Cheyenne and why it was canceled. I have to say the presenter was a bit nauseating to listen to, and, not to be pedantic, but referred to the Cheyenne as the AH-64 several times.

I enjoyed it as well.
I worked on the RAH-66 Comanche when I was at the Sikorsky Factory. The development was done at their flight test facility in West Palm Beach, Florida so I spent at least a week a month there. I never flew it, unfortunately, but the simulator was in Bridgeport, CT and I worked that quite a bit. Just an amazing helicopter.  I also sponsored this thing, from Piaseki Aircraft...Vectored Thrust Ducted Propeller, based on an H-60 I basically gave them. Lots of stories. Very similar to the Cheyenne in that lift is trasfered to wings at certain speeds.

Being a little kid as Viet Nam wound down, the F4s on the TV news made a quite a impression.
It was what jet fighters were supposed to look like. Some quite low level fun .

I never liked the 'look' of the Phantom, even though it was designed with everything in mind:
-two pilots if need be -big delta wings over the center hardpoints -fully rotating elevators -two redundant turbines in the fuselage. thirsty I never considered it a "fighter".....rather as a fast "bomber". (Migs could out-turn it) Maybe it's because some jerkhole in DC decided to remove all guns, and give the pilots a couple of missiles which worked half the time.

The Air Force model had a gun and if the pilots played to the strengths of the Phantom they could hold their own against the Mig 19 and Mig 21, but it was not a fighter like a Tomcat or Eagle.

The same thing happened in the Pacific when Allied fighters met Zeros. You have to learn your opponent's strengths and weaknesses and use your own strengths to exploit any advantage. Also in Vietnam, US fighters were ham strung by rules of engagement which forbade them from launching beyond visual in most scenarios, negating the advantage their missiles would have provided. The work around was the Navy's Top Gun school. Best Les

The Phantom is my favorite fighter jet. Always thought it had the most badazz look.

My two equal favorites are the F86 & Mig 15. As a kid while the Korean war was going on, they made an enduring impression on me. Althoug more modern fighters are beautiful, those are still what I think of when I think of fighter aircraft - badass looking or not.

I have 15 hours in the back seat (GIB) of the F-4 D chasing the MALD with some stick time logged as the pilot in command
Flying out of the Mojave airport using the flight systems jets before they were turned into Drones.
