It'll take a bit of time, but I believe the same will happen with the mid engine Corvette.
The difference is that instead of a paint and wheel trim and premium option package; this is an entirely different car.

I think they will be readily available with a little time. With VERY few exceptions (i.e. Ford GT) that is the way it works with domestics. Only a few speculators and some dealers will be disappointed with that kind of availability for what seems will be a borderlne supercar!

So you think dealers will always be able to ask and get additional dealer markup because Corvette went to mid engine? I disagree...

I do agree that these Corvettes will also come out with paint and wheel trim and special options packages as time goes by. Different car? Hmmmm. Aren't all new Corvettes now mid engine?

pavulon is spot on, in my opinion.

Not a big shock. Any big power or high performance vehicle is going to have accidents. All it takes to buy one is money, not skill or experience. I had a colleague at work that had never had anything rear wheel drive or higher performance than a 4-cyl Honda Accord. He bought an Alfa Romeo Guilia Quadrafoglio. He drove it around until the "break in period" was up. He was still very careful with it. Then one day he was at a stop sign turning right and put it in race mode which gives it the most power and responsiveness while turning off all of the nannies. He gunned it and turned...

...and fishtailed and regained traction when he was pointed off to the side of the road where he proceeded to drive his car up over the curb while sideswiping a tree. The damage seemed "relatively" minor, but the local Ferrari dealership had the car for 6 months and ended up charging his insurance $45k to fix the car. Then he was scared to death of it.

Where's the photo of the 'Vette?

I wonder if they went wide and hit someone head on or if they spun it and smacked the hillside. Either way, that's gotta hurt.

Maybe the white SUV (BMW?) in the background got hit?

Steve,
I think you're onto something with the vette hitting the white SUV. I don't see a back tire on that SUV and its resting on the guardrail.

A caravan of GM people? I guess they can report that the airbags work.

About the new vette, in general: good on them for putting the engine in the most efficient place, finally! Took 'em awhile. I guess that one driver in the blue car learned there is not a lot of 'feed-back' with a mid engine : once it brakes loose there is no recovering, right? Seems like they were just going tad fast and crossed the mustard. Driver work(ed) for GM? Actually, looks like the Vette faired better than the SUV.. hard to say..
