450+ hp mid-engine targa for $60k? Yes please.
The closest Porsche seems to be a 911 Targa 4 GTS for $140k. (plus whatever F-you fees the dealers decide to add)
The big question seems to be the 8-speed automatic transmission.

Edit: I now see that it's listed as a dual clutch gearbox, so that's a plus.

McLaren & Porsche have occupied all the available design space (the part left over from the '60s), so there is nothing left. Cheby had to do something tho, and they did.

It is not exactly fugly, AND it is cheap.

Yes, that's it! It IS cheap, so it LOOKS cheap.

The Los Angeles Times said in a review article about an unveiling of the C8 yesterday in Tusin CA that the car suffered from, as they wrote, “The image is some old white guy with a mustache who’s on his third wife.”

Why they failed to mention being over weight, bald and wearing gold chains is obviously a salute to our overwhelming trend for PC. The thing is, that image is one of guys 10 years older than me. IOW — dead.

The new image should be one of car enthusiasts that understand the ridiculousness of owning an old 911 of which price and cost of maintenance, parts, etc., no longer makes any sense. This would likely include many first time buyers into the idea of having a semi-exotic in the garage, that will have a warranty and service facilities with easy access, at a price point in line with the family boxcar.

And no throttle lift nightmares in the extreme nature of the 911. (The last decade of handling improvements noted.)

Besides the transmission, the only thing I would have a hard time accepting are the rear tail lights.

The rest of my issues, I’ll wait to see it in person since cars always look better in person up close.

I was excited to maybe like this corvette but it’s not speaking to me. I would way rather buy a used cayman if I wanted a modern car -which I don’t

I’m not a fan of some of the cosmetic details but I think they did a phenomenal job with this car, especially considering price/performance. I’d have to think really hard between a C8 and a Cayman for about the same price.

Haha! I love (read - don't love) when my wife does that.

I think this is going to be an amazing car. The Corvette has always been looked down upon by European sports car devotees. I've never understood why. Yes, the interior has never been quite up to par, but I really love this one - Even the side switches. It reminds me of a fighter cockpit, much like the ads state. If the performance and price match what we are being told, how can anyone not like the car? Just because of an old stigma?

Anyone who is passionate about cars and performance, and not just a specific brand, will likely love this newest release from Chevrolet.

Because all the cool kids hate GM.

This car appeals to a certain demographic, I see far fewer old, white, bald men in Vettes then I see tribal tattoo'd bro's these days. This shift suggests that GM understands who their buyer is. They know most Porsche buyers would never "stoop" so low as to drive a Chevy, and Ferrari and Lambo buyers can't even say Chevy.

This is a BASE model running under 3 seconds to 60.... that's insane people!! The quality is light years ahead of what most remember Vettes to be. The C7 is a pretty amazing car, the C8 base is performing at Z06 levels.... The bandwidth of automotive quality is so narrow these days it is often in details that only a few years ago weren't on anyones radar, and the Vette is doing it at a fraction of the cost. Then consider that in 15-20 years when your Vette needs a new trans you'll only be out $2000 How much is a PDK rebuild?

I can't imagine what the up levels are going to do... one thing for sure is the Vette guys will enjoy trashing all the euro snobs, and the euro snob will enjoy looking down on the "poor mans" enter fav brand here.

After doing a bit of reading, it appears the base model isn't the sub 3 second car. To get to the sub 3 category requires the Z51 package.

Just a guess here but the new 8 speed DCT in the Vette probably won't be a 2k rebuild either.

See my post above, didn't you know all GM is crap... unless you've been to a dear in the last 5-10 years.

Z51 should be the magnetic ride and suspension, shouldn't see a huge jump in 0-60 from a Z51 package.

You can find used C7 trans for 1500.00, so double it... new PDK 24,000.00

The design isn't my taste, I like soft forms more. But man, the quality is 8/10th the perf. is 11/10th the price is 6/10th... it really is a remarkable car all things considered.

For those "design" experts, I would love to see your rendition that meets all of the criteria a modern car must.... kiss you Muira goodbye

That's an option.

The levels have been base, Z06, ZR1.

Regardless, so a few extra grand probably for the Z51? What other manufacturer offers anything close to that performance level for anything close to that price?

Let’s say I win mega millions tonight and can buy anything I want so long as it’s modern:

I’ll say first - I don’t love anything new out there. If forced to, I would probably try to locate a Ford GT. A black one like Leno’s

I would also order a 992 with manual and all available options

Maybe a Koenigsegg One

Ferrari has lost me unfortunately. Their modern interiors are no better looking than this Vette though likely feel much better. New lambos interiors are awful looking while their exteriors are growing on me the more I see on the road and they continue to sound amazing

The problem with corvettes for me is there’s always something about them I hate, usually it’s the rear end or interior

I’ll admit they are fun. My dad has had a few and I’ve driven them. I like being behind the wheel of them...there’s something there I can’t describe. Maybe it’s the small cabin with the long wide hood not sure

Bingo.

But I still don't like the exterior or interior.

if I was made king of the cars I would make it at 85% scale, otherwise at this price point I find not much to fault

To be fair to this poor corvette I think the Carrera GT and panamara are two of the most hideous looking cars ever, inside and out. It’s Not easy pleasing everyone
