Can Audi, BMW, Porsche, etc survive in US without pickup trucks in their lines?
I recently read that by 2022 the only ford car will be the Mustang. Folks aren't buying many autos. Will European companies have to manufacture trucks?

as long as they are making SUVs, they'll be fine. I think there will continue to be sporty cars.

When the Cayenne was first mentioned Porsche faithful howled about Porsche making trucks. The Porsche SUVs have made great profits for Porsche. They don’t need a pickup. The pickup market has lots of variety. They can stick to the market they have and will have with the all electric car with the horrible name. Tycan.

Maybe Ford just can't produce a competitive product.

Why would they? It’s a hyper competitive market with incredibly strong brand loyalty that most import makers don’t really understand. There’s a reason why the big 3 dominate the segment. Ford discontinued their car products because they wanted to retool the plants to focus on their better selling SUVs, it was a business decision. Their cars were actually selling fairly well, but nothing compared to SUVs.

People who drive everywhere with an empty steel box on the back of their car just for looks or to make a "statement", and that would be just about everyone who drives a Man Bling truck, remind me of the kid who has to wear a walkaway vest.

The Mercedes version of the Nissan Navarro pickup for folks who want to look like rich farmers rather than drive the Navarro to look like ornery farmers

Big pickups are hell to park in Europe, and tricky to drive through the narrow streets in many European old towns and villages. Only showoffs buy them here unless they need to use them as work trucks, and most tradesmen prefer the much cheaper, more economical and more practical panel Vans which are available in a huge variety of roof heights and wheelbases to suit needs.

The Honda efforts have been a styling smash hit! Audi and Porsche need only to follow that playbook.

Until they make a truck with a full eight-foot box, it is of no value to me.
I often max out my 3/4 ton. When it is empty, rusnak can laugh at me all he wants. |

Only a little? I'm sure the Ridgelines work really well (like every Honda) but jeebus are they homely.

As Toyota and Nissan have learned, it is very difficult to compete in the full size pick-up market whichis dominated by Ford, GM and Ram.
They have better opportunities in the mid size truck market but that is crowded too with GM and Ford having newer products. That leaves the SUV market which I think they are well positioned. The wild card is hybrid and electric vehicles - I'm uncertin about that rate of growth or what vehicles they will be in. I work for a Tier 1 company in the automotive industry and that growth has an impact on the facility I work at.
