We went through that with Hurricane Rita in 2015. Coming right on the heals of Katrina, which devastated New Orleans, we though we were doomed. It just sat in the gulf off shore and wound up to a 5, trying to make up its mind on where to go. At first it looked like somewhere between Corpus Christi and Galveston, putting us on the wet side. Everyone in the greater Houston area panicked and jumped on the highways out of town. Grid lock. Then they kept projecting it to move up the coast bit by bit scarring the heck out of us stuck in stalled traffic. Eventually it moved further up the coast to come ashore at the Texas/Louisiana state line after loosing some strength. Although it spared us the wind and rain there were plenty of smaller disasters from a bus load of nursing home residents catching fire on the highway to numerous pets dying in the heat and carbon monoxide while sitting in the back of pick up trucks stuck in traffic. When Hurricane Ike came a few years later, we were instructed to "hunker down" and ride it out if we were away from the coast and low sea level. Lets just hope it stays far enough off shore to spare everyone a lot of grief. |

Marsh Harbor Airport.
What a mess but look at one thing there, look off in the distance and see Metal Roof vs. Shingle.Quote:

I have to be honest I was unprepared this season and that was a lot of my anxiety. Part of it was denial and my refusal to deal with it this year. I also have some other thoughts in my head, I was sitting with my FIL yesterday discussing some of them. I am spread out too much with too much to deal with when these times come and a lot of the situations I am in, I am not happy with, I am going to try to change a lot of that this winter. I am not going into it all here now. I saw this on Bahamas News. I cannot imagine being in this horrifying situation, reminds me of Katrina in NO. https://twitter.com/Bahamaspress/status/1168599030261325825 Lots of info in this twitter feed. https://twitter.com/Bahamaspress My wife says I am a control freak, this is one of those things you cannot control and I do not like it. Hence all my anxiety. I want to control this and it will not let me, that makes me mental. I need help.

The difference being, people in NO had a chance and places they could go, unlike a small island. |

The situation we are in here is different there is a big chance we are not going to get much, we may see hurricane force winds it all depends on the turn. Even with Cat2 and Cat 3 storms I prefer to leave and go somewhere else and enjoy electricity, nice showers and peace and quiet. Some people thrive on the thrill of riding out a storm, I have rode out some and it is way over rated. Best hurricane I ever missed, Francis 2004, I was in Key West for 4 days while it sat over my house for 48 hours and churned away. I was on Duval street drinking and being a tourist in beautiful weather. Then we drove back the moment we could. Then Jeanne hit 2 weeks later, we tried to move out of its way and ended up in it in Tampa. That sucked. Wilma in 05 we rode out, it sucked I did not sleep nothing happened, we sat in the dark house with no power and no AC and it just sucked. I prefer to leave, the wife likes to stay or if we leave only go as far as necessary. She says I stress her out because I want to get back the moment we can, which I think makes sense. Seems more stressful to me to sit in a house with wind howling over it.

Getting my things ready to leave Amelia Island as well. The 944 is in a friends garage on the island so it should be OK. Going to Jacksonville (I have a few options there) or if I need to go further west I have options out there too. Living 3 blocks from the beach, I am not risking staying at this point.

I can imagine your stress. I get somewhat stressed when a tornadic storm is heading my way but I only have a couple of hours (at most) to think about it. Watching a huge killer sob heading my way for a couple of days would move my stress scale to 10+.

Just had some sad news about Abaco
![]() Hometown Lodge, a lovely house we rented in Elbow Key a few years ago is gone, Hometown Harbour Lodge is no more, the coffee shop has collapsed and Captain Jacks all gone, most of Elbow Cay has gone. The surge of water approx 26 feet, the islands they say will never be the same again. People have been swept away, many people are missing in Abaco and parts of Freeport are gone US Coast Guard is in Andros ready to do a quick hop in Helicopters when it’s possible

It won't happen though because it would be considered 'critical thinking' - and that's too much to ask for.
