That is a memorable "Photo Funnies from the National Lampoon. Couple in be going at it in the first few frames. Then they're sitting back and he's lighting up in a couple of frames. He offers a cigarette and asks her, "Do you smoke after sex?"
She looks under the covers and says, "Yes."

There is a girl I work with who spends 5 minutes every hour staring at her phone while sucking down as many cigs as she can get, takes a long lunch as well. Her primary focus in our lab is when she can have her next smoke break (she doesn't even take her coat off most days). Ironically she is the one *****ing the loudest about having no money (maybe it's the $7 pack of daily Marlboros !)

Definately DO NOT hire a smoker !

As for mood swings, I can recall several one time co-workers whose behavior was dependent upon the time elapsed since their last nicotine hit.
My daughter took up vaping for a while to "help her give up cigarettes ".
That stuff scares the heck out of me.

Smokers tend to be wound a lot less tight than the "Cigarette smells OFFEND ME" types. What sort of person are you looking for? Someone free scent, or someone that does the job?

Quality of life is extremely high for me. Sacrificing any part of it better pay real dividends. Smelling cigarette smoke 8 hours a day will have a very high impact on the quality of my life. No thank you. Yes, it's nice to be able to control your environment, I agree.

There are exactly zero foul smells while working. The only things we use that have an odor are aluminum polish (smells really nice actually, it's sweet), Cerakote (vented booth, always wearing a respirator though the few times I've shot "40ml" of paint, Cerakote does smell nice too). Use a lot of acetone too. Love the smell of acetone in the morning. That's it.

I wish more people realized the, even unintended, negative impact they have on others.

Edit. There is one bad smell here. Heating chrome '68 vent window frames to melt the adhesive and remove the glass. That does smell. Always do that outside.

If you are a non smoker, it will drive you up a wall. No matter how minor, which is how it starts... Until it's 20 cigarette breaks a day, butts all over the parking lot, secret smoking in the bathroom stall, everything smelling...

I worked in a professional photo labs for 25+ years. We had over 15 darkrooms for various purposes. 10 of them were a single enlarger room for making prints. 6x8 room, one enlarger & timer, and some shelves for photo paper was about all there was. If a smoker was using the room it would REEK of an ashtray for the non-smokers. Even worse was someone with worm dirt, AKA a dip or chew in their mouth, and a spit bottle. We had to simply prohibit all tobacco use of any sort on in the building after a dipper started working there. The back of the building was a sea of butts, and total denial that any of the employees did it. And none of them ever cleaned up their butts. Maybe somewhere on the planet is a smoker that is not a total litter bug, but I have never seen one in person. They all toss them the second they have their drug hit. Especially while driving a car. They have an ashtray in the car, but prefer to toss them out the window while still lit.

I deal with a lot of smokers for my job. Most smoke inside their hovels. Once in a while I come across a house with a large flower pot full of perfectly arranged butts, like it's a big decoration. At least these folks tend to clean up their butts. But, if I owned a business or commercial property, I'd really try to accommodate smokers, because those butts will end up on the ground if I didn't. Ban, complain all you want. When there is no place to put the butts, they end up on the ground.

Don't think the gov't. wouldn't come after the non-smokers for the lost tax revenue.

Can't smoke during work hours and have work uniform at the office for him he must wear. Put in contract. Your clear up front so easy to fire later if problem.

Not sure what you would do about his hair smelling like smoke from prework smoking but hopefully minimal. Unless you are working shoulder to shoulder, probably wouldn't notice.

Good luck Shaun.

I don't think you can get them to wear that mask.

I agree with shooting them.

But as a moderate I say use a water cannon...

My friend, a pack-a-day smoker, just left for Australia. He was whining about cigarettes in AU cost $50 a pack. Mind you he was just there 6 months ago.
He forgot there was such a thing as Google.
It's $16 US per pack of 20.

I can't remember the last time I saw someone smoking let alone actually meeting one.

In China just about 100% of men smoke. It's everywhere and no smoking signs mean less than 55 mph speed limit signs in the US. Some friends from China came to visit over Xmas. They bought a carton of duty free Parliaments for me. I haven't opened it and am wondering what to do with it. I'll probably hand them out to customers.

Sounds like you've made a decision on the candidate.
Now - do yourself a favor and get rid of the string in social media about it. You never know when somebody gets a hair across their butt about not being hired.

Just a thought....

ohh, and for the record....I wouldn't hire a tranny either (too much trouble)

Around here it'll cost you about $300 a day to hire a smoker, and you provide the hog.
