A long time ago (30 plus years, I guess) I worked with a veteran of the Merchant Marine. He did many runs from Halifax to England. His stories were harrowing at times.

We had a former U-Boat commander living here at one time. Was a member of the local yacht club and my parents knew him. Also one of Pappy Boyington's pilots who became an attorney lived and worked here. Bunch of other veterans here also, of course. Good people, all....

It will be free on Firestick, with 5 minutes of work
Search YouTube for Firestick, and you’ll find dozens of videos showing you how.
I use the Ap Cinema, but there are many that let you watch or download anything that streams.
I would suggest against downloading...just watch and enjoy.

Well... That was something else. Great movie. Mr Hanks has done well.

Once the action starts it doesn't let up until the end. Multiple attacks and ship to sub fire.
It had me on the edge of my seat!

I don't want to over sell it but it's a must see!

Definitely want to watch this. I hope it comes to a theater eventually - there's a couple near me that show movies a few months after their release (and older ones as well). Plus beer and pizza, and cheap tickets.

I have the Apple TV app on. It says "How to Watch". I have to sign up and pay for a DIFFERENT Apple TV app? How ghey is that?!

Forget it, sucker! I don't need to watch.

(I don't mean to get political but...)

This is what I love about the US. Past members of enemy armies can migrate to the US and live the American dream which means it's real. The only requirement is loyalty to the US.

It's the same in Australia. My father was born in 1940 in an "occupied by Germany country"... One of my father's best friends was a German veteran. They used to drink play chess together regularly.

^ Agree. Poor Tom needed more, too. Kind of a blue collar, down to earth submarine story. Solid with plenty of meals.

Credits show the screenplay was by Tom Hanks.

Seahawk: One of the most riveting movies ever made.
One of the best movies I've seen made depicting submariner life in the kriegsmarine .

Even without the depth charges, etc., I am either equipped for, nor could I, do the underwater thing.

When I was testing the MK-50 Steam Torpedo at AUTEC (https://www.navsea.navy.mil/Home/Warfare-Centers/NUWC-Newport/What-We-Do/Detachments/AUTEC/) in the late 80's, we briefed the Sub Folks at Kings Bay and then worked with them at AUTEC. We actually tested a whole bunch of ASW sensors and weapons there against the real thing.

The Captain of the Boat that helped in the testing offered me a day aboard, which, to my chagrin, I accepted.

I learned a lot in those 24 hours: How capable our submarines are, how well staffed and capable our sub force is (especially the enlisted men) and just how badly I wanted off the Boat as soon as I got on.

Seahawk,

Thank you for being up there.

Being on a sub was like being on an airplane, for a 90 day flight, without windows. The fare was free but you had to work to keep it afloat. Also no stewardesses, lots of cleaning, training and drills. Other than that, just like an airplane.

Peter,

I have a photo album somewhere with pics of my Dad and some German sailors when he was in the Navy. I think this was in Buenos Aires.

I'll try to get some posted.....

That was an exhausting 90 minutes. I can’t imagine living those 50 hours.

If you have Verizon, Apple TV should be free. Watch it on your phone and cast it to a TV.

Good flick - pretty intense - U-571 is a pretty decent sub movie too. I liked it.

I've now seen it twice! Lots & lots of details missed the first time.

In case anyone was wondering... George Cleveland was portrayed by Rob Morgan.
